The soap opera community is mourning the loss of a legendary actor, Bill Hayes, who passed away at the age of 98. He was best known for his long-standing role as Doug Williams on Days of Our Lives, which he played from 1970 until his death. Kristian Alfonso, who portrayed his onscreen daughter for decades, took to Instagram to pay tribute to him. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards him for welcoming her on her first day with warm and open arms, for the love and support he provided her with, and for all the days that followed. She also described him as a true icon and expressed how blessed she was to work with him, to know him, and to learn from him.
In a statement released from the show, they shared, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Bill Hayes. One of the longest-running characters on Days of Our Lives, Bill originated the role of “Doug Williams” in 1970 and portrayed him continuously throughout his life. He and his wife, Susan Seaforth-Hayes, remained the foundation of the Williams-Horton family spanning more than 50 years.“
