Kyler Pettis is taking a moment to look back at his time on Days of Our Lives, where he played Theo Carver, the role that eventually earned him a Daytime Emmy Award.
Looking back, the actor admits the experience wasn’t all praise. In fact, he faced criticism for being on a soap opera, something many daytime actors have dealt with over the years. Still, he never lost sight of what the opportunity meant to him.
While sharing scenes from his time on the show, Pettis reflected, “I got a lot of criticism for being on daytime back in the day, but still this was one of the better opportunities I was given to perform. It ultimately led to an Emmy.”
He also spoke about the importance of the role itself, adding, “Theo was on the autism spectrum who occasionally struggled with social interactions but never with how lovable he was.”
A Role That Truly Connected

And honestly, that’s exactly how fans saw him.
Pettis joined the long-running soap back in 2015, stepping into the role of Theo at a time when the character was navigating friendships, family dynamics, and young love in Salem.
He stayed with the show until early 2018, appearing in over 100 episodes and quickly becoming a fan favorite thanks to his grounded and sincere performance.
That connection with viewers didn’t go unnoticed. In 2019, Pettis took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series.
These days, the character of Theo is being played by newcomer Tyler Joseph Andrews.
Soap Stars Finally Getting Their Recognition
At the same time, soap actors as a whole have been getting more recognition lately, and not just from daytime audiences. Even Hollywood stars are starting to speak up about the work that goes into it.
Ryan Gosling recently shared his appreciation for the genre, pointing out how demanding it really is, especially when it comes to the amount of dialogue actors have to learn every single day.
He even gave a shoutout to Deidre Hall, who plays Marlena Evans. Gosling called attention to the unforgettable storyline where her character was possessed by the devil. Not once, but twice.
Hall responded in the best way, inviting Gosling to visit the Days set, which he happily accepted.
Even Eva Mendes also joined the conversation, sharing a clip from that same storyline and writing, “When my hormones talk to me. But for real — @deidrehall_official this is epic. And you’re so beautiful. Cannot wait for the RG collab I never knew I needed.”
It All Paid Off
So yes, there was criticism along the way, but in the end, it led exactly where Pettis said it would. What started as an opportunity that some people questioned turned into something much bigger.
An Emmy, sure, but also a role that clearly left a lasting impact.
