If you spent the 80s glued to the screen watching the high-stakes drama of Santa Barbara, you might want to clear your calendar for a trip to Georgia. Jerome Dobson, the legendary Emmy Award-winning co-creator of the iconic soap, is bringing his storytelling magic back to life in a brand-new way. His latest stage play, titled Plot Twist, is set to make its world premiere at the Synchronicity Theatre in Atlanta. The production kicks off on April 24 and runs through May 2, 2026.
The Ultimate Creative Reunion
Plot Twist reunites Dobson with original Santa Barbara star Lane Davies, who not only stars in the play but also directs it. That alone is enough to grab attention, but the creative team does not stop there.
The production also features original music by Dominic Messinger, the award-winning composer behind some of Santa Barbara’s most memorable sounds. Altogether, this is a reunion that has been a long time coming, and it shows.
Set in the high-pressure world of 1980s daytime television, Plot Twist follows Henry, a brilliant soap writer whose personal life starts to spiral. As his reality begins to collide with the stories he creates, things quickly take a dark turn.
Ambition, desire, and betrayal all come into play, and before long, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur. Add a hidden gun into the mix, and suddenly nothing feels predictable.
What makes this even more compelling is the live element. There are no retakes, no second chances, and nowhere to hide. Every twist plays out in real time, which only raises the stakes.
For longtime soap fans, this production taps into everything that made daytime drama so addictive. Big emotions. Shocking turns. Characters you cannot look away from.
As Davies puts it, this is soap storytelling in a whole new way. On stage, anything can happen, and it is all unfolding right in front of you.
With Dobson and Davies leading the charge, Plot Twist blends nostalgia with something fresh. It feels familiar, but it also pushes the format into new territory.
