Huge news is coming out of Genoa City today. Lauren Koslow is officially heading back to The Young and the Restless. However, she won’t be playing a new character or even reviving her old one. Instead, she is stepping in for a brief stint as the iconic Jill Abbott.

This temporary recast comes down to a simple scheduling conflict. Jess Walton, who currently plays Jill, lives in Oregon and wasn’t able to make the trip to Los Angeles for this specific filming block. To keep the story moving, the producers reached out to Lauren to fill those very famous shoes. TV Insider first reported the news.

A Major Full-Circle Moment

This casting is actually a beautiful “welcome home” for Lauren. Her very first big break in the industry happened right here on Y&R when she played the role of Lindsey Wells.

Her time on the show was life-changing in more ways than one. While working on the soap, she met makeup artist Nick Schillace. The two eventually married in 1987 and started a family together.

Soap fans have followed Lauren’s incredible career for decades. Before she became a staple in Salem, she played Margo Lynley on The Bold and the Beautiful. In 1996, she moved over to Days of Our Lives to take over the role of Kate Roberts. She has been a powerhouse on that series ever since.

In a joint statement, Executive Producer Sally McDonald and Head Writer Josh Griffith expressed their gratitude. They said, “We’re extremely grateful to Lauren Koslow for returning to her Y&R roots and temporarily stepping into the role of Jill. We want to extend our sincere thanks to [executive producer] Ken Corday and [co-executive producer] Noel Maxam at Days of Our Lives and Peacock. Their support embodies the collaborative spirit of the daytime television community.”

What Happens to Kate Roberts?

If you’re worried about Kate Roberts Brady disappearing from Salem, you can breathe a sigh of relief. This temporary trip to Genoa City will not affect Lauren’s role on Days of Our Lives. She will continue to be a key player on the Peacock streaming series while she helps out her old friends at Y&R.

Koslow will first air on Thursday, June 25.
