Matt Cohen Joins The Young and the Restless

If you thought The Young and the Restless was slowing down in the casting department, think again. EW has confirmed that the latest addition to the cast is General Hospital and Supernatural alum Matt Cohen. He’ll be stepping into the role of Detective Burrows, who’s investigating a major case—and he makes his debut on October 16.

Soap fans know and love Matt Cohen from his run as Dr. Griffin Munro on General Hospital from 2016 to 2019. He’s also familiar to CW viewers for his role on Supernatural. Since leaving GH, Cohen has kept busy, including a stint as a correspondent on Entertainment Tonight.

Matt Cohen Joins Y&R

Now, he’s heading back to daytime. Cohen began filming for The Young and the Restless last week and will make his first appearance on Thursday, October 16, 2025. According to reports, his character—Detective Burrows—will be front and center, investigating a major case that involves some of Genoa City’s most prominent residents.

This casting news comes shortly after the show killed off Chance Chancellor, the show’s lead detective. That exit wasn’t random—actor Conner Floyd is reportedly making the jump to Days of Our Lives, where he’ll take over the role of Chad DiMera.

In just a matter of weeks, Y&R has been on a casting spree, welcoming several soap alums back to the fold, including Lucas Adams (ex-Tripp, Days), Tamara Braun (ex-Ava, Days), and Roger Howarth (ex-Austin, General Hospital).

The Young and the Restless is clearly on a roll with these casting surprises—who do you hope they bring on next?
