Maurice Benard’s “State of Mind” continues to significantly address impactful topics and foster engaging conversations. Benard, renowned for his portrayal of Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, recently welcomed his former co-star, Matt Cohen (ex-Griffin Munro), as a guest on the show.
Starting from the beginning, Matt Cohen discussed the valuable lessons imparted by his father. He candidly acknowledges finding himself in a phase he refers to as a “midnight crisis,” prompting deep introspection about his pursuits. Benard commends his positive transformation while Cohen concedes that reaching this point has been the result of considerable effort.
Matt Cohen Talks About Suicide!
Cohen admitted to the challenges he faced during his time at General Hospital. His difficulties arose from managing the responsibilities of a new parent, assuming a substantial role on the show, and confronting demanding and distressing storylines. This resulted in struggles to maintain equilibrium and to delineate between work and personal life. However, with the assistance of Benard, he ultimately obtained the necessary support to navigate through these adversities.
Cohen openly disclosed experiencing thoughts of suicide. He underscored the deep sense of duty he felt towards his family, which prevented him from acting on those thoughts. Cohen also conveyed appreciation for his family. He acknowledged that having a family was instrumental in bringing him out of his despair.
The actors discussed the late Billy Miller and Tyler Christopher, both of whom passed away last year. Maurice and Matt both expressed the belief that life is too challenging to navigate alone. In addition, Cohen disclosed the details of how he met his wife, Mandy, and shared insights on topics such as boxing, acting, and homelessness. In concluding, Benard permitted Cohen to interview him, during which Cohen inquired about Benard’s desire for his acting career. You can find the complete interview below.
