Maurice Benard and Jonathan Jackson took listeners to church on the latest episode of State of Mind on YouTube! In this engaging episode, Benard started off by introducing his guest, Jackson who then took a little stroll down memory lane, reminiscing about how they first met, shared his musical tales, talked about books, his family and the power of prayer. Let’s just say it was a powerful episode!
As they delved into the topics for the episode, Benard recounted a challenging period in his life that ultimately highlighted the strength of friendship, particularly the support he received from two friends, Jackson and Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). About four months ago, he encountered a very difficult time that he was facing alone—a situation he was not accustomed to. However, Jonathan and Steve stepped in, and together they prayed through the tough times, which became a profoundly beautiful experience.

After two days of heartfelt prayer, Bernard felt a renewed sense of hope. He expressed, “It works—prayer works. I felt better, but what happened was I was so messed up that I went to go see like 25 doctors, and then I went backwards again, but those two days were phenomenal.” He reflected, “It taught me a lot about friendship because I haven’t had to go to friends for something like that—it’s always been Paula or my son.”
Jonathan stated that, while it goes without saying, these are moments he wouldn’t wish on anyone; however, being there for a friend during such times is truly one of the greatest honors and privileges of his life. He also talked about his many trips to Greece over the last decade, where he encountered beautiful Christian monks who dedicate 8 to 14 hours a day to prayer. They rise at 3:00 a.m., candles lit, fervently praying for the world. Jackson remarked, “I believe that’s primarily where the grace was coming from.”
