Maurice Benard has been through a lot of fictional weddings over the many decades of playing Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital. But in real life, things are getting emotional!
Benard married Paula Smith on August 11, 1990. Their union brought four children: three daughters and one son (he and his wife also adopted his wife’s younger sister Heather after their mother’s death). Now, one of his daughters, Cassidy, is getting married this Friday, October 16, 2026—and guess what? Maurice is officiating the ceremony!
Maurice Benard Is Nervous About His Daughter’s Big Day
Taking to Instagram, Benard shared a picture of himself and his daughter with the caption: “Friday, my baby girl @cassidybenard is getting married, and I’m terrified!!! Only because I have to officiate and I’m thinking it’s gonna be through a lot of tears. Wish me luck.”
Naturally, the post got a ton of support from his colleagues and fans. One fan commented, “You will do fine. You are great in all you do.” Another fan named Sandra said, “What a beautiful daughter you have, you will do just fine because you will be speaking from the heart & your heart is full of love for your family! Congratulations!” And another chimed in, “Water works are okay 😁 You will do ‘GREAT’!!! Congratulations to ‘The Bride & Groom’!!!”
This is not the first time Maurice is officiating one of his daughters’ weddings, either. In fact, the actor, who is also known for playing Nico on All My Children, previously officiated the wedding of his daughter Cailey. The nuptials took place at home as Cailey made vows to her now-husband, Carlos.
Congratulations to Maurice, Cassidy, and the entire family on this exciting milestone!
