Max Ehrich has a new project in the works, and this time he’s stepping into the world of vampires! The four-time Emmy nominee is teaming up with General Hospital actor Bryan James for The Kindred, an original vampire film written and directed by James. The project is being developed by James’ Day One Productions, with filming scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in late November 2026 and a targeted release in 2027.

Max Ehrich and Bryan James Star in The Kindred

According to the announcement, Ehrich and James will lead the cast of The Kindred, with Ehrich playing Alarac and James portraying Draven.

The story centers on Alarac, a 348-year-old vampire who transforms an unsuspecting human, Draven, into one of his own kind.

From there, the film explores human impulses, the complexities of immortality, and the challenges that come with living forever.

Rather than simply focusing on vampire mythology, the filmmakers are interested in exploring the emotional side of eternal life, including desire, connection, and what it means to remain human.

Bryan James Writes, Directs and Stars in the Film

James is wearing several hats on this project.

In addition to playing Draven, he wrote and directed The Kindred through his Day One Productions banner, which is also attached to produce and distribute the film.

James spoke about the creative collaboration with Ehrich and their plans for the project.

“The Kindred is an original vampire story created and developed by Day One Productions,” James said. He added that he and Ehrich have been shaping the concept together and are excited to bring their own interpretation of vampire mythology to the screen.

James is known to daytime viewers for his work on General Hospital, as well as Youthful Daze.

Max Ehrich Opens Up About Playing a 348-Year-Old Vampire

Ehrich also shared what attracted him to the project, particularly the character of Alarac.

“What draws me to Alarac is the humanity that remains after 348 years of immortality,” the actor explained.

He added that the character offers plenty of opportunities to explore someone who has lived through centuries but still struggles with desire, connection and the meaning of being alive.

Ehrich also described developing the story alongside James as an exciting creative collaboration.

The role gives him an opportunity to explore a very different character from the daytime roles audiences may already know him for.

When Will The Kindred Begin Filming?

Day One Productions is attached to both produce and distribute the film, with a 2027 release currently being targeted.

The company has been developing and distributing original content since 2012.

Further casting announcements, additional production details and an exact release date have not yet been provided.
