Soap fans are about to see a familiar face back on daytime television. Maxwell Caulfield is returning to the soap world with an appearance on General Hospital this Friday, May 29. According to TV Insider, the actor will play Apollo, a New York City gallery owner, and there’s clearly more to him than meets the eye.

The role marks Caulfield’s first return to the soap genre in nearly 30 years.

Speaking with the outlet, the actor shared how the opportunity came together.

“Mark Teschner, the brilliant casting director over there, has been working for a while to get a role for me on the show,” Caulfield explained. “In this instance, it’s just a one-off, but I was happy to take it.”

Apollo May Have a Shady Side on GH

Fans can expect Ava Jerome (Maura West) and Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) to cross paths with Apollo as Alexis tries to gather more information about Delilah.

The investigation comes at the request of Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), who are currently hoping to adopt baby Phoebe.

Of course, this being General Hospital, things may not be as straightforward as they seem.

Caulfield teased that there is “something a little dubious” about Apollo.

As you know, mysterious new characters are not strange for the ABC daytime soap opera.

The Role Disrupted Personal Plans

Interestingly, Caulfield admitted his General Hospital appearance slightly disrupted plans he had with his real-life wife, Juliet Mills.

Soap fans will instantly recognize Mills for her unforgettable role as the wicked witch Tabitha Lenox on Passions, a character that remains one of the most iconic figures in soap history.

Longtime daytime viewers may also remember Caulfield from his role as Pierce Riley on All My Children from 1996 to 1997. He also appeared on Ryan’s Hope years earlier as a drunken punk in a bar.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.

Are you excited to see Maxwell Caulfield back in daytime television? And do you think Apollo will end up becoming more than just a one-time character on GH?
