Melissa Ordway, who portrays Abby Newman Winters on The Young and the Restless, revealed that she’s no longer on contract.
While on a flight from LAX to BNA, Ordway engaged with her followers on her Instagram stories, inviting them to participate in a Q&A session. One question stood out as the most frequently asked: why did she decided to cut her hair? In response, Ordway noted, “Honestly, it’s been an interesting couple of months. The show decided to take me off contract so I decided to change my look up a bit for auditions. Definitely not something I wanted but I love and respect my YR family and appreciate any time they ask me back.”
When asked what off contract means, she explained, “I’m still playing Abby. I’m just not guaranteed episodes and can work on other projects. I’m still a part of the YR family and pray they continue to let Abby be a part of all things in Genoa City. Trust me, I hope I’m still there all the time! I think they’re just focusing on other characters and storylines. But I worked today and lots of fun stuff coming up!”
Ordway joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in March 20213, taking over the role of Abby Newman from Emme Rylan. In May 2022, she earned her first Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama.
As for when her new look (her shorter hairdo) will debut on the show, Melissa Ordway teased, “When Abby and Devon get back from their honeymoon.” Check her Instagram stories for more! (Photo: CBS/Sonja Flemming)
