The soap opera community is in mourning following the passing of legendary actor Bill Hayes at the age of 98. Hayes was best known for his iconic role as Doug Williams on the popular NBC series Days of Our Lives, which he played from 1970 until his death. Melissa Reeves, who played Jennifer Horton on the show, took to Instagram to pay tribute to Hayes. She shared that it was difficult for her to write the post, as she couldn’t think of Bill without remembering his wife Susan, as they had a beautiful love story. Reeves also expressed her condolences to Susan, saying she will miss Bill’s singing voice and their dancing lessons between scenes. She has no doubt that Susan will continue to carry on their wonderful legacy in all that she does.
“This is such a hard post to write. I was going to post a picture of just Bill. But you see, I can’t ever see Bill without Susan. They have such a beautiful love for each other. So not only do we mourn the loss of our precious Bill, I also pray for Susan’s heart in this time. It was always beautiful to watch their love, care, and respect for each other. And I have no doubt Susan will continue to carry on their wonderful legacy in everything she does. I will miss my dancing lessons with you, Bill, between scenes and your lovely singing voice that would stop all of our hearts; you are simply one of the best.”
