When it was announced that Days of Our Lives had recast the role of Lexie Carver—and that Nikki Crawford would be taking over—many fans were worried. Recasting a legacy character is always risky, especially given how Lexie originally died during Renee Jones’ tenure.
Nevertheless, Crawford stepped into the role and truly made it her own. She proved to be a massive asset to daytime, turning in incredible performances week after week. In fact, her strong work recently earned her Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week honor.
Sadly, her time in Salem is coming to an end with the Friday, August 21st episode on Peacock.
Key Takeaways
- Nikki Crawford’s run as Lexie Carver ends August 21.
- Lexie’s miracle return came with a deadly cost.
- Abe and Theo get one final chance with Lexie.
Nikki Crawford’s Time as Lexie Carver Is Coming to an End
Crawford made her debut back in March 2026, when writers revealed Lexie was the person inside the pod. Soon, the truth came out. Theo found out, Abe found out, and all of Salem eventually learned of Lexie’s triumphant return from the dead.
Unfortunately, her reunion was short-lived. After reclaiming the life she lost years ago—when she originally died in Abe’s arms from a brain tumor—Lexie discovered that Dr. Rolf’s miracle drug came with deadly side effects.
When strange symptoms began, Lexie hoped for a fix, but Rolf delivered the grim truth: there was nothing he could do.
A Short-Lived Miracle for the Carver Family
Not wanting to put Abe and Theo through the agony of losing her again, Lexie decided to live out her remaining days in isolation. She concocted a story about visiting her mother, but her family quickly saw through the lie. Theo eventually found his mom in the DiMera tunnels, and Abe rushed to her side. Lexie was brought to the hospital, where doctors are now fighting to give her a little more time with the people she loves.
Unfortunately, time has run out. Nikki Crawford will officially make her final appearance as Lexie on August 21.
Earlier this month, Crawford wrote about the storyline on Instagram, “If you knew you only had days left to live… What would your last conversation with the people you love sound like? Playing Lexie challenged me to imagine that question every single day. As an actor, my job isn’t to make every moment beautiful. It’s to make it truthful. Thank you for taking this journey with her.“
How do you feel about Lexie’s sudden exit? Are you satisfied with how this storyline played out, or were you hoping to see Nikki Crawford stick around longer—perhaps even as a new character? Sound off in the comments below!
