Paging Dr. Horton – Should Dr. Mike Horton Return Home on Days of Our Lives?

Mike Horton also known as Dr. Michael William Horton II is a fictional character on the NBC daytime drama, ‘Days of Our Lives’. He was named after the man who was thought-to-be his father, Mickey Horton [ex-John Clarke]. He is however the son of Mickey’s brother, Bill Horton and Laura Horton [Jaime Lyn Bauer]. Mike came as a result of his father, Bill drunkenly raping his mother, so he grew up thinking that his father was Mickey.


Mike is known as the most recast character in ‘Days’ history, with sixteen different actors playing the role since the character’s birth in 1968. Although he has been aged and de-aged several times, he is now said to be in his 50’s and residing in Israel. Most recognized in the role are; Wesley Eure who played the role from June 6, 1974 to January 16, 1981, Michael T. Weiss from August 8, 1985 to March 1, 1990 and most recently by Roark Critchlow from April 27, 1994 to November 19, 1999 and June 23 – 28, 2010.

 

Throughout his time in Salem he was first married to Margo Anderman. He was later in a relationship with Dr. Robin Jacobs. He also looked after his little sister, Jennifer Horton [Melissa Reeves]. He and Robin share a son by the name of Jeremy Horton. After a brief absence from Salem, Mike returned when things did not work out with Robin. At this point he was made Chief of Staff at the Salem University Hospital, it was there he began having an affair with Carrie Brady Reed [Christie Clarke]. Though he and Carrie went off to Israel together after she and her husband, Austin divorced, Mike and Carrie split off-screen.


Mike was briefly seen in Salem in June, 2010 when he got news of his grandmother, Alice Horton [ex-Frances Reid] being ill. Though he came to Salem to see her one last time, he didn’t get the chance because he was involved in an accident and Alice died while he was being treated in the Hospital. It was he who hung up a plaque in the hospital to honor his late grandmother.


Since 2010, Mike has not been seen – so do you think Mike should return to Salem? Ofcourse, he could come back and reunite with his sister, Jennifer and his half brother Lucas [Bryan Dattilo] and the rest of his family. And, there’s also great potential story for him and Carrie should they bring both of them back to Salem permanently. After all, these are the characters that ‘Days of Our Lives’ should be looking to bring on the canvas; characters that viewers know and love – what do you think fans?
