While we did award General Hospital’s Adrian Anchondo our Performer of the Week, it would be remiss not to recognize the phenomenal work Rachel Boyd delivered this week on Days of Our Lives as Sophia Choi.

Rachel proved she’s an absolute powerhouse when it comes to emotional scenes, especially the ones that call for a good, heartbreaking cry. This week’s storyline gave her exactly that kind of material, and she ran with it.

In a powerful sequence, Sophia’s water broke while she was alone in her room. Unlike the false alarm on graduation day, which was just Braxton Hicks contractions, this time, she was really in labor. Then came the twist no one saw coming: Sophia gave birth all by herself, wrapped her newborn in a blanket, and left the baby outside the fire station.

Returning to her room, the emotional aftermath hit her like a wave. Pain, confusion, guilt—it all came crashing in. Sophia curled up in bed, clutching her teddy bear, and cried uncontrollably. Through the tears, she whispered “I’m sorry” over and over, clearly tormented by the decision she just made.

We have to say: coming in as a recast is never easy, especially for a soap opera newcomer. However, Rachel Boyd, who stepped into the role of Sophia back in February, showed this week that she’s more than up for the challenge. She did her thing! Her performance was raw, authentic, and deeply moving. It was one that truly tugged at our heartstrings.

Big thumbs up to Rachel Boyd for such a beautiful, standout performance.
