Cameron Mathison portrays Drew Cain on General Hospital, a character who’s managed to earn the title of most hated in Port Charles, and not just among the residents. Some viewers aren’t exactly rooting for him either. But that just proves how well Mathison is doing his job. This week was no exception. And for his layered performance, he’s been named Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for September 1–5, 2025.
The Week That Was for Drew Cain
Even though it was a short week for General Hospital, unlike some other soaps, the drama was anything but lacking. In fact, it was at full throttle — and right at the center of it all was Congressman Drew Cain, who found himself shot not once, but twice.
Drew has quickly become public enemy number one in Port Charles, and he has no one to blame but himself. Over the past few months, friends have turned into foes, his enemy list has gotten longer, and anyone still neutral seems to have joined the anti-Drew bandwagon. This week, his name was on just about everyone’s lips.
Drew’s Villain Era
Things kicked off with a tense showdown between Drew and Carly in her office, where she laid into him with a threat. As usual, Drew was pushing buttons and fanning flames. He took the opportunity to “accidentally” mention that he and Willow were back together — playing it off like he thought Carly already knew, but clearly enjoying the moment.
From there, Drew paid a visit to the hospital and had a heated exchange with Chase. He reminded him that what happens between him and Willow is none of his business.
Later, Drew headed home, feeling smug. He poured a drink, looked at an old photo of himself and Willow, held a ring in his hand, and made a quiet promise that everything would work out. However, just moments later, he was shot from behind by an unknown assailant.
Cameron Mathison Delivered A Layered Performance
Cameron Mathison is clearly thriving in this villain era. Whether you love or hate Drew (note: there are plenty of reasons to lean toward the latter), there’s no denying how compelling Mathison’s performance has been. He brings depth, intensity, and a quiet arrogance to the role that makes it impossible to look away. The moment Drew was shot — and Cameron Mathison’s gripping reaction — had viewers glued to their screens.
For his standout work this week, Cameron Mathison earns Soap Opera News’ title of Performer of the Week. Congratulations, Cam, on this well-deserved honor.
