Nothing pleases our hearts like having a veteran take the spotlight. With that in mind, it’s been an absolute pleasure watching Beth Maitland drive the story on The Young and the Restless, delivering back-to-back gut-wrenching performances this week. While it was hard to watch Traci get her heart broken, the story allowed Maitland to delve into some meaty emotional material.
In story, Traci faced the painful reality that the man who proposed to her was in fact Alan’s psychopathic evil twin brother, Martin Laurent. This week, she had her moment to confront him, and thanks to Ashley confirming who he was, Traci was able to see the light.
Heartbroken, shocked, and utterly in disbelief, Traci stormed downstairs at the GCAC to demand the truth from the man himself. Naturally, he played his mind games, insisting he was Alan, but Ashley, we, and a climactic scene with Sharon and Phyllis at the GCPD confirmed his true identity as Martin.
Beth Maitland skillfully shattered our hearts into a million pieces with her performance, only to mend them with our admiration for her talent. These were undeniably Emmy-worthy scenes, and Soap Opera News is proud to crown Maitland as the Performer of the Week. Job well done!
