We hope everyone had a merry, wonderful and joyous Christmas. Our Final Four celebrated with parties, visits, gift giving, long-awaited kisses, and all kinds of soapy goodness. This is our final soap recap, Honorable Mention and Performer of the Year article for 2018; so let’s get to it!
Genoa City centered last week on one of their most famous matriarch’s, Nikki Newman. Nikki’s family, friends and loved ones continued to pray and wait for her to wake up. They even had a special candlelight prayer vigil for her. God Bless them they tried. But there was only one person who could bring our Nikki back to us…Victor Newman. His love and presence was all Nikki needed. Victor did bring Nikki back to us. But we didn’t get a second to breathe a sigh of relief before Victor had Nate kidnap Nikki. At the end of Friday’s episode, Victor’s henchman wouldn’t let Nick and Nate out the ambulance to bring a relapsed Nikki in the hospital for treatment. Reed’s guilt almost made him fess up. But Charlie stopped him. Lola broke up with Kyle because he bought her a purse that costs $5,000.00. Yep, you read it right. I got nothing. Moving on.
We are all abuzz on what changes Tony Morina and Josh Giffith have in store for Y&R. We think their handprints were all over last week’s episodes. Whomever hand prints they were, big props. These are our holiday highlights; Noah came for a visit to see his ailing grandmother, there was a nice holiday party at Crimson Lights, they didn’t forget it was Devon’s first Christmas without Hillary, there was a Cassie mention and Victor and Nikki vintage flashbacks and Nikki “playing” Y&R’s original score on the piano. Big big big applause.
On Bold, Bridget popped in for a holiday visit. We got more background on Dr. Reese. His past and his “creditor” caught up with him in L.A. Although he lied to Zoe, that he wasn’t in any trouble. We got a good chuckle at Dr. Reese’s reaction when Taylor told him a paltry 500K wasn’t a big deal for her to shell out for an adoptive sister for Kelly. And Dr. Reese literally licked his lips at the wad of cash in Taylor’s hand when she tried to pay for lunch. Xander told Zoe he loved her. Ridge’s New Year’s Resolution to Brooke was to always put her first. Now we are all thinking of the storylines on tap for him to do just the opposite lol.
Liam and Hope planned a babymoon to Catalina. But before Liam and Hope could leave Kelly got sick. Liam the ever-doting father wanted to make sure she was okay before they left. Hope insisted that he go check on Kelly and she would meet him at the airport. A series of mishaps including high winds had Hope in Catalina and Liam grounded at the airport on the phone with Hope as she went into labor.
There was a bright, colorful festive party at Eric and Quinn’s. Xander read the passage of scripture and Eric led everyone in singing Joy To The World. Side note; what’s up that “strange” overly bubbly couple at the airport?
General Hospital only had three new episodes last week. A special encore episode from December 2005 was aired on Monday. Tuesday, Christmas Day, featured holiday programming. The recap for the rest of the week is as follows. Nelle confessed to Dr. O that Wiley is her son with Michael. Dr. O promised to keep her secret but she won’t keep it forever. Felicia was back on set, rightfully so, as the Kevin/Ryan story progresses. Emma came to visit for the New Year and gave us some “Meghan Markle” flair. And she played move in matchmaker for Fanna. “Hank” a face from Drew’s past made his way to Port Charles.
Ryan claimed a third victim, Peyton, the producer of the documentary about him. Peyton who might have watched too many soap operas thought he had the perfect twist ending to his documentary that maybe just maybe Ryan had survived and was indeed alive. Good news Peyton you hit the nail on the head. Bad news you hit the nail on the head. #RIPPeyton.
There was a fundraiser for Pediatric Cancer Research to ring in the New Year at the Metro Court. Michael longed for Willow. His sister, Kristina, for Valerie. Out of nowhere Drew and Kim shared a kiss. Kim told us it was nostalgia on her part because Oscar was conceived on New Year’s Eve night, okay. And congrats Jasam-ers after many (too many) almosts your ship shared a couple of NYE kisses!
Days gave us our first face to face meeting with Kate Mansi’s Abby and Ben since Kate’s return. It was brief as Abby bolted out of the DiMera mansion after she shocked Stefan by out “DiMera-ing” him with a divorce. Grinch Leo told Ari and Thomas that Santa wasn’t real. Some were, especially in the gift-giving mood. Shelia brought Abe some “Jordan’s”. Ben bought Ciara a gift to ward off evil spirits on the road. And to Claire’s delight Tripp’s gift labeled CB wasn’t for Ciara Brady it was for her, Claire Brady.
Julie’s memory came back and she remembered finding Charlotte’s paternity results in Gabi’s room and that Chad was her father. Kayla’s hospital computer confirmed the results and Gabi’s tampering. Chad confronted Kate about her part in Gabi’s lies. Chad told Kate to “stay the hell out of his life.” Kate made a beeline for the DiMera mansion and dropped the mother load of all motherloads on Stefan. I’m paraphrasing, “yeah, you just got everything you deserved and by the way, I offed your momma on purpose. Have a good day!”
Salem had their own memorable holidays highlights as well; the Annual Reading to the kids at University Hospital where Abe and Shelia danced/did the bump. The Annual Horton Christmas Party where Ciara and Claire brought each other new replacement ornaments and Elani’s baby, David, got his own ornament. Monday’s episode was in Memorandum for Frank Parker. Tuesday’s in Memorandum for Peggy McCay. Of course, we can’t leave out the New Year’s Eve Party for the Horton Center. Monday can’t come soon enough #JackIsBack.
Days had all our week’s winners and deservedly so. Our Honorable Mention is Tyler Christopher! Julie spoke for a lot of us; for just a moment we felt sorry for Stefan. And that was 100% Tyler’s doing. His devastation at losing Gab-Y and Charlotte forever was perfectly portrayed. He was devilishly humane in those War of the Roses meets 50 Shades of Grey scenes with Camila. Devilish in Stefan’s taunting of Gabi with that hot poker. And then humane when without warning he let Gabi go. Tyler gave us soapy grey this week. Great Job Tyler!
Crowning our final Performer of the Week was just as difficult as all of those best of lists for 2018! How could we choose one of these phenomenal ladies over the other one? Could we really say one was better? No. We have dual Performers of the Week to close out 2018, Camila Banus and Kate Mansi! These two female actors SLAYED. I’m telling you I don’t even know which one to discuss first. Let’s go alphabetically, Camila first.
For the past few weeks, we’ve seen Gabi’s internal turmoil and struggle on what she had done, who she had become. It was skillfully exhibited again in Gabi’s scenes with Chad. As angry as she was with Abby and Stefan, it tore her up to hurt Chad. Her tears left no doubt that Gabi’s emotions were raw, layered and real. But those scenes with Stefan, wow. Gabi was angry, scared, defiant, remorseful and always spellbinding. We will remember 2018 as the year Camila/Gabi turned it up and never looked back.
“I am Abigail Deveraux and I make the decisions in my life.” Yes, ma’am! Kate Mansi has been gearing up for last week since her return. Kate showed out all week. Abby made her rounds and left no one unscathed. Stefan, Gabi (got a punch), Jennifer and Chad all felt the sting of Abby’s wrath as she stood up and took control of her life. Kate gave us all what we have been waiting for; Abby was back. In scene after scene Kate reminded us all (not that we ever forgot) she is QUEEN. Thank you thank you, thank you Kate for coming back!
That rounds out our last week in soaps for 2018. Thank you so much for your support this year. We are looking forward to a greater 2019.
Everyone have a Safe, Happy and Prosperous New Year!!
See ya next year!

Performer of the Week: Days of Our Lives’ Camila Banus & Kate Mansi!
