Hello soap family! We kicked off our first Best Dressed Star of the week article. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out and tell us what you think.

This past week we had a bag of cash, singing, a vow renewal, stabbing, water rescue, a punch, newly appointed CEO’s, and a whole bunch of other good stuff. Let’s Geaux!

The Bold and the Beautiful

Thorne’s apparent exit storyline continued to unfold. Thorne and Katie shared adult time. Katie told Thorne she knew that Bill’s resurgence in their lives hadn’t been easy for him. Thorne expressed to Katie his deep pain from losing a wife and a daughter. And how that finally, after so many years; he had found someone he wanted to have a future with. Anvil. Anvil. Anvil. Mother’s s intuition was alive and well. Hope even with her unrelenting pain and the fact that she felt like she was drowning; she still felt Beth there. Steffy met Florence (we will stop calling her faux baby momma). Steffy held “baby X” and felt an immediate connection. She asked Florence to drive out to where the beautiful people lived, Malibu, and to bring “baby X” so Steffy could see if “baby X” and Kelly would bond. Not sure if that meant their sleeping or eating would synchronize. But Florence was all too happy to get a glimpse of how the other half lived. Steffy invited Liam over. He met and held “baby X” as well.  Steffy and Liam agreed she was meant to be Kelly’s sister.

Dr. Reese told Florence the story behind “baby X” at her insistence. Florence at least was horrified at what Dr. Reese had done. But she still agreed to keep up his lie. Dr. Reese planned to leave town after Taylor gave him a bag of 50K in cash as a deposit for the 250K payment for the baby. Come on Taylor! You don’t think that was just a little bit weird, creepy and rushed? Dr. Reese subtly manipulated Florence, Steffy and Taylor to get that money. Yet, it might have all been for nothing as his creditor’s henchman closed in on Zoe.

The Young and the Restless

Mia and Rey decided to renew their wedding vows. And in two days, Mia had gotten her original wedding dress from Miami, secured a venue, got Sharon to agree to attend and still had time to push up on Arturo. The vow renewal ceremony was a nice quaint celebration at the Athletic Club. Arturo was so overcome with the sentiment of love and until death do us part, he proposed to Abby right after the “I Do’s.” Ana came clean and admitted to Devon that she was the mystery songwriter, And she told Devon she was in credit card debt. There was still the nagging feeling there is something up with her. You all agree? Something was most definitely up with Kerry. Jack thought so too after catching her in a lie. Whew. We were scared Jackie was actually buying the civil court tale.

Some of our favorite scenes were between Victoria and Sharon. We so wish they continue to explore this friendship. Victoria confided in Sharon about her relationship with Billy and her kissing Cane. Victoria is scared to trust Billy and feels guilty that she’s harboring the horrible secret about JT. Sharon told Victoria she deserved to be loved.

Billy opened his big mouth and told Lily about the Vane kiss. We love you Billy but in our best Kristen DiMera voice (from Days) that was just Mean. Mean. Mean. Lily was crushed but determined not to break.  A new, stronger, evolved, Lily, after she gets out of jail, has such compelling storyline potential. Hint. Hint. Cane went to the Abbott mansion. confronted and punched Billy. He deserved it. Cane promised Billy to make him pay. Cane and Victoria tried to make rhyme or reason of why they kissed when they don’t even like each other. They concluded it was only frustration that led their lips to find each other (twice) and not attraction.  Sure, Jan.

Phyllis was under suspicion and in defense mode all week. She tried to get Sharon to join her against the Newmans but Sharon said as much as she didn’t trust the Newmans she trusted Phyllis even less. Jack told Nick if he was looking for someone who had the motive and could pull off setting up Victor, he didn’t need to look any further than the pillow beside him in his bed. After Michael busted a few moves to Fen’s song, his conversation with Phyllis left him suspicious. It hit Nikki that all they had was Phyllis’ word that she threw the murder weapon, the fire poker, in the river. She blasted Phyllis who admitted she hadn’t been entirely truthful. Yes, she did keep the poker for insurance and yes she lied about it. But she maintained she wasn’t behind trying to frame Victor and gas lighting Nikki. Nick rounded out Phyllis against Genoa City week. He picked up where Nikki left off and blasted Phyllis about her lies and said he didn’t trust her. Then Phyllis lashed out and ratted out Sharon’s involvement in the Murder Club. Just a thought. The buzz was that Phyllis was behind all this. But now with so much focus on her maybe it is someone else?

General Hospital

Last week General Hospital started off with a bang! Ryan cornered Lulu, took her license and all but told her what had been staring her in the face. Yet, Lulu couldn’t quite connect the dots.  She thought Kevin was having a psychotic break and thought Ryan was Kevin thinking he was Ryan. She didn’t know it was Ryan but she knew enough to know she was in danger. She couldn’t escape Ryan before he stabbed her. But thank you soap gawds for the onset of the acute head pain that rendered Ryan immobile long enough for Lulu to escape. She woke up with Ryan hovering over her for our Friday cliffhanger. Good news, the PCPD got their first big break in the case, a bloody shoe print.

Alexis met Shiloh. She told him for Kristina’s sake she would give him the benefit of the doubt. She lied lol. Mike’s disease has progressed to the point that Sonny needs to place Mike in permanent care. Spinelli made a short appearance to help Sam find Jason. But we should be seeing more of him, as he will be helping Jason investigate the emails Sam received. Robert Scorpio came to help with the mysterious virus that is temporarily blinding twins (Ryan was Bird Box #2). Robert came with proof that Kevin had worked with Dr. Cabot and the WSB.  Fanna and Robert wondered why “Kevin” lied about it.

The sleeper storyline in Port Charles continued to be the evolution of the bullying storyline. Last week the questions were asked a) Is Aiden gay? b) How would Liz feel if he was? The line of all soaps last week was when Jake wanted to discourage Aiden from bringing the cupcakes to school. Liz’s response was; “If we discourage him from being proud, then we are discouraging him from being himself.” This storyline has been and continues to be the biggest and most pleasant of surprises.

A visit to the catacombs was on Joss and Oscar’s bucket list. Joss and Oscar got trapped in the cellar. Oscar had a seizure. Joss fell off the ladder. But they were rescued by Jason, Sam, Carly and Drew and were fine. Jason waited down in the cellar until everyone else was rescued first. Before he could be rescued, the cellar floorboards collapsed. He had to swim to Pier 52 where Sam rescued Jason. A rescue, hot shower, grilled cheese and Brandy was the key to finally unlock Jasam’s lions. They did IT! Carly spoke for all their fans when she said: “it’s about time!” They affirmed and recommitted their love for one another.  Congrats Jasam fans!

Days of Our Lives

Victor offered a skeptical Brady the CEO position at Titan. Brady was hesitant at first but accepted it with conditions that meant nothing because Victor will Victor. We got a first taste of the next round of Brady vs. Xander. We are here for it. Brady was in a generous mood andcanceledd Chloe’s debt for the loan he gave her to buy her share in Doug’s Place. Hey, Brady while you are in the mood I have student loans! Sonny gave Brady his blessing to be CEO, nice. Jennifer wanted Dr. Rolf’s formula to help Jack remember his life. The FDA had it. You know whether it’s reel or real once it’s in the government’s hands; you ain’t got a prayer of ever getting it. Jennifer thought about getting Dr. Rolf’s diary but she was too slow. Eve had already beat her to it. Jen, you gotta be quicker.

Rafe is out of the country tending to Johnny and helping Sami while Ted is right there in Salem trying to help himself tend to Rafe’s wife. Ted did make a play to reunite with Kate first. She turned him down flat and quick. Next up, Hope. Tripp was thinking about making a play for Haley. But Claire was like hold up. I’ve been waiting on you for two years. Mr. Tripp if you are moving on anywhere, with anyone, it will be with me. She took Tripp to her bed. JJ and Haley let their own respective skeletons’ out the closet. He told her about Eve/Paige. And she told him her big secret; she’s an undocumented immigrant. We love when soaps go relevant and topical. Yes!

The DiMera board rendered their decision on who would run DiMera. They named Chad and Stefan co-CEO’s. Chad gave it all up for Abby! Stabi….game on. Melinda and Jack/Eve threw their hats in the Mayor’s race….game on.

Eric pulled back from kissing Sarah. He didn’t want to make the same mistake that he made with Brady and Nicole, which we think was a good thing. Which was not a good thing, was Eric the next morning bum rushing into grown folks bedrooms. Eric almost popped a blood vessel when he saw Xander and Sarah in the bed. Xander, of course, was all too happy to see Eric there. After Xander left, Eric’s rage was unleashed on Sarah. He accused her of only wanting to sleep with him for revenge against Rex. And to sleep with Xander for revenge against him. What’s wrong with that? Shh, Eric it’s a soap for goodness sake.

Meanwhile, Xander slid back in Leo’s bed and tried to act like he had spent all night under Leo and not Sarah.  Hey Xander, you really can’t con a con. Leo figured out Xander drugged him. Leo told Xander no “stiff one” no dirt on Sonny. And that was pretty much that.

Fast forward, Xander returned to Sarah’s bed asking for another ride on her carousel. She said no.  Next, Rex went into Sarah’s room unannounced, what is wrong with Roman’s sons? Rex had a bouquet of $5.00 flowers like that was going to make up for him sleeping with Sarah’s sister. Chile, he found the unused condom wrappers. Our question is aren’t these people rich? Where was the housekeeper? Anyway, Rex returned to Eric’s place and observed a close moment between Eric and Sarah.

Performers of the Week

Our Honorable Mention of the Week is Jon Lindstrom. He’s been “killing” it for months. Ryan was creepy in the soapiest way when he circled Lulu like a snake before striking. His physical performances of his showdown with Lulu, getting a headache/falling, waking up blind, being blind, towering over Lulu for the cliffhanger was intense. Eyes, stares, smirks, with his rage simmering just beneath the surface; powerful. And now with Ryan being tied to the virus storyline, we will have him interacting more with Anna and Robert! Jon you have us on the edge of our seats!

Our Performer of the Week is Genie Francis! Laura Webber did it all. She was a stressed, frantic, worried mother scared out of her mind that fate would deal the cruelest of blows and take another child from her. She was a comforting grandmother trying to assure Charlotte that Lulu would be fine.  Laura didn’t fall apart, take personal time off or forget the oath she made. She was also the Mayor of Port Charles, in full control, on her job, working with the PCPD, staying abreast of the latest regarding the investigation and never forgot her commitment to her constituents. And it’s no wonder Laura Webber was a superwoman because we know Genie is, soap royalty, icon, larger than life, pioneer. If I have to sell you on Genie ever being a performer of the week you don’t know diddly about soaps! Genie you were just YOU and we love YOU!

A special acknowledgment to Loren Lott (Ana, Y&R) and Casey Moss  (JJ) and Thia Megia (Haley, Days) for their wonderful vocal performances!
