This week the nation celebrated, honored and laid to rest our forty-first president, Herbert Walker Bush.
Consequently, due to the coverage, our soaps were preempted and/or weren’t show at their regular scheduled times. We all had to do some rearranging this week to catch our soaps. I had to watch On Demand, an app and YouTube but I got them all in. Let’s talk soap.
Port Charles continued the aftermath of Kiki’s murder. Maura West continued to Maura West. She picked up right where she left off the week before. We all held our breath as Ava held Griffin at gunpoint before Ryan talked her down. Curtis spilled all to new wife, Jordan, how Ava drugged Sasha, knocked out Griffin and tried to make it look like they slept together. Ava became a person of interest until Ryan lied and gave her an alibi thus giving himself one as well. Well played Ryan. Sam gave momma Aelxis a tip. That and a selfie led to Griffin being freed as a suspect in Kiki’s murder. The PCPD did put two and two together and figured out there is a serial killer on the loose.
Fanna did a little two step while they waited for Dr. O. Dr. O didn’t get the lesson she was expecting. But can Fanna convince Dr. O that Britt-a is really sick and that she must return to Port Charles? Laura figured out that Charlotte is the one bullying Aiden. The scenes with Charlotte, Nina, Valentin and Lulu were very good. We loved the scene with just the adults after they talked to Charlotte about parents not raising their kids to be privileged and to think they can get away with everything. Nicely done.
The original Aunt Viv from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Janet Hubert, debuted as Yvonne. She is tied to Sam’s storyline with Leland Powell. She’s also Mike’s crush. The week ended with Margaux offering Drew the flash drive with his memories.
Bold’s week focused primarily on Taylor shooting Bill, again. Also, Pam continued to push Donna into Eric’s orbit. But Quinn swooped in like hawk and busted up that trying on a dress party. Side note, Donna rocked that dress!
Brooke found out Taylor was the one who shot Bill. She’s concerned Taylor is unstable and might be a danger to her grandchild, Kelly. Hope and Liam are also concerned about Taylor’s mental state. Ridge, on the other hand, was like hey I might have shot him myself.
Taylor and Dr. Reese met and it looks like Taylor will be getting a taste of some chocolate real soon. Also, we didn’t mention last week (oversight on our part) that Wayne Brady made his debut as Dr. Reese Buckingham on November 30, 2018. Welcome, Wayne Brady!
The “highlight” last week on Bold was when Taylor got on her knees and begged Brooke not to turn her into the police for shooting Bill. No comment.
At Days Kate and Chad were both remorseful about their involvement in the sexual harassment scheme. Rafe spent his week trying to track down Hope and her “lover”. But Tope was actually trying to entrap Ben not each other. Yet, there were some moments when they bonded over the death’s of their children so maybe Rafe should be worried. Abby pulled one over on Stefan having him believe GAB-Y was back and she got released from the asylum. Gab-Y vs Gabi, Monday get your popcorn peeps!
Brady and Eric fought (take a million lol) just in time for Maggie and Sarah to walk in. Now, Maggie doesn’t want Eric to raise Holly but he can visit Holly anytime. Eric wasn’t buying that. Looks like we are headed to another custody battle. Didn’t we just have one? Ben has settled in quite comfortably at the DiMera mansion. Lucas broke up with Chloe and headed back to Italy to keep an eye on Allie and her “drinking”. Word is Bryan is already back taping. Will a SOARS Allie return to Salem with Lucas?
#Cin (first date picnic) and Jarlena (redo reception) took us back to the glory days of soaps with some good ole fashioned romance and love in the afternoon. Love in the afternoon takes us to our Honorable Mention Performer of the Week, Lamon Archey. Finally, Lamon got the chance to be the sexy leading man we all know he is. And he went in. Big props to Elani who hasn’t received the screen time they should have (again we just call it like we see it) for a proper build up to these scenes. We couldn’t tell. Lamon gave us sexy leading man smiles, “mack daddy vibes”, flirtatious expressions, and him shirtless is always a winner. When Eli brought those tacos to Lani and was like “Girl I’ve been watching you. I know what you like.” We swooned! And Sal Stowers was right there with him slaying! When Lani swung Eli around and planted one on him; we were all in our feels. Congrats Elani stans! This is a couple to watch!
Genoa City kicked off their week with Mia’s party with the ladies of GC. Zach Tinker debuted as the recast Fenmore “Fen” Baldwin. Do we have a Lola/Kyle/Fen triangle coming with Ana somewhere in the mix? The Young and the Restless going young. We like it!
Businesswoman, Rebekah Barlow was in town to do just that, business. Philly wined and dined her. But before she would sign on the dotted line she wanted some other kind of business first, Nick. Phyllis “pimped” out her boo, to have dinner with Rebekah. Phyllis figured what’s the harm? Nick would strut his “eye candy” for Rebekah and be on his way. Nope. Nope. Nope. Rebekah wanted more than just to look. We will see how that plays out.
The Newman stables caught fire. Victor’s gun and a shirt with JT’s blood was found in the ashes. Victor is now the number one suspect in JT’s murder. But where is Victor? The Murder Club Women had another stressful week. Rey continued to question and pressure them. Nikki was so stressed out by the end of the week, she poured herself a glass of wine. Thankfully she wanted a whiff first. Those one or two seconds was just enough time for the sound of Victoria’s footsteps to snap Nikki back. A nearby plant got watered with the wine instead.
Devon didn’t water his plants with his alcohol. He drank it all himself. And that’s where we have our Performer of the Week, Bryton James!
This week we continued to see Devon dealing with his grief. From his walk of shame (coming home after a night of partying sporting his Stevie Wonder glasses) to his panic attack to him pulling himself together and saving the deal with Rebekah to his heart to heart with Ana on the steps, each scene we shared in his grief.
No doubt the most gripping scenes of the week in daytime, were Devon’s scenes with the therapist. Everybody grieves differently. Some scream, yell and cry loudly (that’s me). Some grieve quietly, reservedly. But no matter how one grieves, grief hurts. It’s painful. There were no tears (Devon did tear up once). He didn’t yell. He didn’t raise his voice. But his grief, pain and loss was very real. You felt it. You felt for him.
Bryton nailed the subtleties. His uneasiness, the rubbing of his eyes, the rubbing and twisting of his fingers, how he rubbed his knees, how he looked down at times or looked away. And when he looked at the therapist his expressions of loss and bewilderment said more than words could ever say. When his voice cracked when he changed the words from “she is to she was”, our hearts broke all over again at Devon’s loss and ours.
****The dialogue was the perfect complement; nothing feels normal, Shauna leaving made Devon feel like a failure to Hillary, every time he sees Nate he sees the doctor who couldn’t save Hillary, he couldn’t stand looking at Lily on Thanksgiving talking about being thankful when she will get out and grow old with her family one day, sometimes he can barely muster a shower.****
We waited for this and Bryton was worth waiting for! Thank you Bryton!

Performer of the Week: Y&R’s Bryton James!
