Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor Helen Gallagher, a highly acclaimed performer and educator, has died at the age of 98.

Helen Gallagher was born on July 19, 1926, and passed away on November 24, 2024. She was a talented American actress, dancer, and singer, recognized for her remarkable contributions to the performing arts, including winning three Daytime Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Donaldson Award, and a Drama Desk Award over her extensive career, which spanned seven decades.

Gallagher achieved her big break in 1947 as Nancy in the musical “High Button Shoes.” Her incredible talent earned her a Tony Award for her portrayal of Gladys Bumps in the 1952 revival of “Pal Joey.” Gallagher is perhaps best known for her role as Irish matriarch Maeve Ryan on the ABC soap opera “Ryan’s Hope,” where she starred from 1975 to 1989 and won three Daytime Emmy Awards for her outstanding work. Gallagher last graced the New York stage in 2000 and continued to influence the next generation as an acting instructor at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City.
