In light of some recent events, Scott Clifton (Liam, The Bold and the Beautiful) shared a significant message on social media. Despite his busy schedule on the set of the CBS daytime drama, Clifton dedicated time to post a video addressing an important matter. He spoke about the growing imposter issue on social media platforms while emphasizing its escalating threat.
There has been a growing incidence of individuals assuming false identities as actors from soap operas. These impostors have established counterfeit online profiles. They use the names and images of the actors, deceiving fans into providing them with money and leaving their partners for a fictitious relationship. In his PSA, Clifton said, “More recently I’ve been confronted with maybe a dozen real world examples of people who have not just been lied to, not just been tricked, not just had their feelings hurt. But whose lives have been destroyed by this.”
Clifton also mentions a recent incident in which an individual posed as one of his colleagues. The impostor managed to convince a woman to attempt the murder of her husband. Clifton emphasizes that this is a truly alarming matter.
Clifton urged fans to proactively block and report fake accounts if encountered. Additionally, he advised them to carefully scrutinize a user’s handle for any underscores, hyphens, numbers, or similar elements that could aid in ascertaining the account’s legitimacy.
