NuCane (Billy Flynn) Debuts!
“The sky is above me. The ground is below me.”
No doubt Lily Winters felt the ground underneath her shift when Cane Ashby returned to canvas on The Young and the Restless.
The New Cane
For the last several months, the citizens of Genoa City and soap fans alike have been abuzz, asking the same question: Who is Aristotle Dumas?
Although Dumas’ name had been on everyone’s lips, no one had seen his face. Off-screen, Dumas had been a vested observer in one of Genoa City’s favorite pastimes, the business ownership and CEO chair game, playing cat and mouse behind the scenes. While the Who’s Who of Genoa City were all trying to discover who the mysterious business tycoon was, what exactly he wanted, and how they could use him to advance their own agendas.
So, who is Aristotle Dumas? None other than Cane Ashby, now being portrayed by beloved soap star, Billy Flynn!
The Genoa City citizens hanging out in France, after being summoned by Dumas AKA Cane Ashby, were stunned to learn Dumas’ real identity, except for Victor, of course. But savvy soap fans had been speculating this reveal for a while. It’s hard to put much past soap fans these days.
Cane, no stranger to faking identities, as most fans know, landed in Genoa City in 2007, then played by actor Daniel Goddard (2007-2019), under the guise of being Phillip Chancellor III. It was ultimately discovered that the real Phillip had faked his death, and Cane was actually the son of Colin and Genevieve Atkinson.
So, after leaving Genoa City, Cane reverted back to old habits and had been living a dual life, this time as Cane and Dumas. But now Cane is ready to resume his life as one hundred percent Cane Ashby.
How did Billy Flynn do?
The first thing we noticed was how comfortable Flynn was. Yes, of course, Flynn is a pro and no stranger to daytime playing Chad DiMera on Days of Our Lives for the past decade. Still, new soap, new network, it would be totally understandable if there were a few butterflies, right? If there were, we could not tell. Flynn was in full Flynn mode. Handsome, relaxed, perfect touch of mystery, and doing this thing! He looked like he had been in Genoa City (yes, they were in Nice, France) for a while.
We loved his scenes with soap icon Eric Braeden (Victor), his emotional reveal with Christel Khalil (Lily), and his scenes with Mishael Morgan (Amanda) and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) were a hoot! Flynn and NuCane fit right in!
Flynn is giving suave, billionaire business tycoon, Cane, ready to take on Genoa City, and we are here for it. After months of waiting for Mr. Dumas to hit our screens, Flynn has us intrigued to see where he will take Cane Ashby. And we got questions.
- Is Colin dead, dead?
- Who might be trying to kill Cane?
- How did Cane become a billionaire?
- Why does Cane want Chancellor so much?
- Will “Lane” reunite?… Recasts can open up doors to new ship possibilities!
We are aboard the train, ready for the ride! We give Flynn’s introduction a B, a very solid B.
