After almost 9 years of being absent from the soap genre, Chris McKenna made his grand return to the genre this week, snatching the role of Jack Brennan on General Hospital from Charles Mesure, who bowed out on January 30th. McKenna made his first appearance on February 4th, 2025, and the internet collectively dropped its reaction in shock—no one saw this coming!

To add to it, Jack no longer beared his Aussie accent. Not a single word of dialogue in Tuesday’s episode even bothered to address Brennan’s newfound non-Aussie voice—talk about a drastic voice-makeover! But hey, this is daytime soap opera territory, where characters can magically grow taller, lose their ethnic roots, or suddenly develop a drastic new look overnight or as in past times on All My Children—in the very same scene!

Chris McKenna As Jack Brennan on General Hospital

Although the Aussie accent was evidently MIA, McKenna still brought that charmingly mysterious vibe that Jack is famous for, and yes, the flirty banter with Carly was still sizzling! So while Jack might look a lot different and sound a lot different, some things, like his irresistible charm, remained the same.

McKenna has been gracing our soap screens since he was a teen heartthrob on One Life to Live, where he played Joey Buchanan from 1990 to 1993. He later donned a detective’s badge as Mark Harding on The Young and the Restless from 2014 to 2015 and even had a brief run as Dr. Hayden on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2016.

In our soap grade, we are giving McKenna an A—what do you think? Would you give him an A+, or are you a tough grader? (Photo: ABC.)
