Former soap star, Leigh McCloskey is now a grandfather. Ecstastic about his new family addition, he wrote, “WE ARE GRANDPARENTS!” He continued by introducing the world to his new granddaughter: “It’s a Girl! Leighton Phoenix Gothard was born to our eldest daughter, Caytlyn, and her husband, Jacob Gothard, at 4:35 PM Tuesday, November 20th, at the Ventura Memorial Hospital.
They are safe now, but much like the trauma of the fires, Leighton’s birth was harrowing and difficult. We are lucky to have them both, but as after the fire, there is now calming that brings greater peace of heart and mind to all of us. We’ll know more of the whole story later.
Carla and I were finally able to see Caytlyn in Recovery and moved to her room by the sweetest staff of caring nurses. Good vibes there. Caytlyn lost a lot of blood, high fever, infection and received a blood transfusion . Leighton weighed in at 7 lbs 15 ounces and 22 inches. She was born at 4:35 PM. She needed to be taken to the Natal Intensive Care Unit immediately due to other concerns from fever that lead to the emergency C-section. We enjoyed talking to Jacob who has been going back and forth between Caytlyn and Leighton to be near both and with them as much as possible. We are not permitted to see Leighton yet nor is Caytlyn, but are beyond proud and happy and in love with our new Leighton Phoenix, a remarkable soul that has joined us so soon after so much drama.
Truly a Phoenix rising from the ashes of Malibu and seeding a new generation with hope and a new family with a sense of deeper purpose and human responsibility. May this new birth of our granddaughter, Leighton Phoenix Gothard bring hope and a greater love to all of us that reminds us to celebrate life and to hold those we love with all our strength. In one way or another we are all family.
We hold Leighton, Caytlyn and Jacob with all our might and with the gentleness of love that wishes this new family a blessed journey that is as wondrous as the one her parents have been given the chance to take together. Welcome to the planet dear Leighton.
Welcome to parenthood and fatherhood Jacob, and Caytlyn to motherhood and parenthood. How full of grace and meaning that Leighton Phoenix Gothard has joined the family and filled our hearts with overflowing joy after the infernal experiences of the last two weeks.
It all feels astounding, mythic and deeply human, concluding with birth and the hope of generations. Here’s to that! Heres to the Phoenix rising from the ashes through love and family and the responsibilities of community that embrace the YES of Life and the shared generosity of Love. Here’s to Life, Leighton Phoenix Gothard!! Here’s to Caytlyn and Jacob!” Congratulations to the family, see the video below.
