Sonia Blangiardo is an American television soap opera director and producers. She’s known for her association with All My Children, As the World Turns, One Life to Live and Days of Our Lives. She is also the creator and director of the hit web series called “Tainted Dreams” which premiered on YouTube in December 2013. She recently earned a nomination as Best Director at the Daytime Emmys and her series was nominated for Best Digital Drama. Soap Opera News caught with the talented star who gushed about her Emmy Nomination, her work on ‘Days’ and ‘Tainted Dreams’, upcoming projects and more.
As we congratulated her on earning a nomination for the 2018 Daytime Emmys, Blangiardo shared, “Thank you very much. It truly always is an honor to get nominated. I will absolutely be there proudly with the rest of my team.” As many know she earned a nomination for Directing ‘Days’ and in this regard, she noted, “Directing at Days is a dream come true. Everyone is kind, fun and so happy to be a part of such a great show. I’ve been there for a little over 3 years and loving every minute it. We go very fast but still enjoy catching up with everyone. It’s like a weekly reunion!“
In regards to her past work on the different daytime dramas, Blangiardo revealed what her experience was like. “The part I love the most about working on soaps is the sense of family,” she gushed adding, “I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Some of the most important people in my life I met working on the shows. Outside of that, one of the biggest reasons why I always knew I wanted to work for soaps was because of the pace. I love that every second counts and at the end of the day, due to the well-oil machine that these shows are, you have a show. My husband is an actor and is on shoots all the time and a good day for a prime time show is 6 or 7 pages. A good day for us is 125!“
Of her Tainted Dreams experience and playing the role of Dr. Kaplan, Blangiardo shared, “Well, that is something that happened through a process of elimination! I learned that I have immense respect for actors, even more than I did before. I also learned that there is a reason why I love directing! I’m just not in my comfort zone in front of the camera. However, working with Walt and Kelley was a real highlight. Those scenes were some of the realest in the entire show and I was honored to have been a part of them. Their talent is ridiculous!” And, as for her upcoming projects she revealed, “My husband and I are writing partners and we have several scripts of varying genres. It is very difficult to get a show made these days, but that is not stopping us. I’m also working on an exciting new project with one of my oldest friends, former AMC director Michael Pomarico and Alicia Minshew that a good friend of hers, Markus Redmond wrote. It is brilliant and funny and custom made for Lish.”
In closing, she highlighted, “I think the only thing that’s big in this business is to be working and I am very lucky to say I am doing exactly that. What’s also really exciting is that you really don’t know when the next big thing is happening. That’s what makes what we do frustrating but exciting and exhilarating. I have many irons in the fire but I have no idea when or how anything will transpire. Welcome to show business!“
