August was a standout month for daytime drama, and two stars have been crowned “Star of the Month” for their unforgettable performances. While fans voted for Kristina Wagner (Felicia, General Hospital), Soap Opera News has chosen Stacy Haiduk (Kristen, Days of Our Lives). Let’s take a closer look at what made these two stars the top picks.

Kristina Wagner’s Standout Performance as Felicia

In August, Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) life hung in the balance after collapsing on live television during Deception’s segment on Home & Heart. Her face cream (Youth Truth Night Mask) was tampered with and caused Maxie to experience heart failure, not for the first time either. Maxie’s family, friends, and loved ones, frantic and fraught, kept vigil at her bedside at the hospital.

Her mom, Felicia, tearfully poured her heart and fears out to Anna (Finola Hughes) as she talked about Maxie’s miracle heart (BJ’s heart) she received so many years ago. Felicia feared that Maxie’s miracle may have run its course.

BJ’s heart transplant story, an emotional one, even 30 years later, is more than enough to pull on GH’s fans’ heartstrings, hard.

But to watch Kristina sit at “Maxie’s” bedside and to watch Kristina in those related scenes knowing her own personal loss; God Bless her. We send love and light to Kristina and her family today and always.

You delivered, Queen! Congrats on being voted the fan favorite Star of the Month.

Stacy Haiduk’s Unforgettable Portrayal of Kristen DiMera.

The cat is out of the bag, well, sort of.  In case you were wondering, yes, learned behavior is a real thing. Even though Rachel (Alice Halsey) doesn’t share DNA with Stefano DiMera (the late Joseph Mascolo), she, like her momma Kristen, is a DiMera through and through.

Rachel is the one who shot EJ. And most soap fans and Marlena (Deidre Hall) herself had been putting the pieces together for a minute, so the reveal might not have been a shock, but it was still well done. Good job, Days.

Poor Kristen! She had been worried for weeks about Rachel, worried if Rachel would be able to handle testifying at Johnny’s (Carson Boatman) attempted murder trial. Only to be faced with the reality that it was Rachel who had shot EJ, who had pulled the trigger. Rachel put a bullet in Uncle EJ after he refused to tell Rachel where he had exiled her namesake grandmother. It’s no wonder EJ had suppressed the memory. Now he’s got two trigger-happy DiMera females to contend with. Good luck with that, EJ.

It is not every day one can say they feel sorry for Kristen, but you had to feel something for her, right? Anger, revelation, acceptance, and despair were all on display as EJ (with Marlena in the “amen” corner) convinced Kristen that Rachel was the shooter.  Kristen begged EJ, as any good momma would, not to turn her baby in. And EJ, as any good father would, told his sister that although he loved Rachel, he couldn’t sacrifice his child for hers.  Don’t you wonder what Stefano was thinking in soap heaven while all this was going on?

What Kristen Did

Kristen, a mother, a momma bear, burst into the courtroom and shocked all of Salem and “confessed” to shooting EJ. “I’m here to confess. I’m the one who shot my brother.” Kristen is infamous for entrances. She knows how to make one and never disappoints. She then spun a tall tale for the Judge and Belle (Martha Madison), and they whisked her away to jail…again.

At Salem PD, an emotional Kristen got us emotional too as she lamented to Marlena how everyone, especially Brady, would hate her. But Johnny and Rachel would be safe, and that is all that mattered to her.  But goodness, when Brady (Eric Martsolf) laid into Kristen behind bars, we saw (and felt) how it affected Kristen. “The Lady in Red”, a distraught and sobbing Kristen curled up in a fetal position on the jailhouse cot by itself was more than enough to crown Haiduk this month.

Like we said, it is not every day you feel sorry for Kristen. Haiduk had us up in our feels. She put on a show as the formidable, no-holds-barred villainess broke to save her baby. The lioness became the sacrificial lamb. Haiduk…did that!
