  1. Susan, I cannot imagine your pain, but I know when my mom lost her husband of 50 years, while we did not tell her, (she had Alzheimer’s), somehow, she sensed his absence. I sometimes think its kinder to spare someone the news of their loved ones’ passing. In your case, that would have killed you as well. You had a magical time with Bill, one many would envy. What a talent, and I am sure quite the husband as well. We will miss him, I know you will. The best memorial isn’t flowers, but knowing he loved you deeply. Hugs.

  2. You and Bill always lit the screen when you were on! What a treat it was to see you both interact with Dick Van Dyke.
Reading the comments of fellow actors tell of Bill’s goodness and innate kindness just verified what he presented. You both seem so genuine and your love story was magic.
Back in the ‘70’s I walked into a small shop and saw the two of you looking into the display case and giggling. I think I gasped but just stood and watched you interact having already been a fan for many years. Hope that doesn’t creep you out but it was heartwarming to see you not acting but being so real. A very fond memory.

I thought of you immediately and send you, and family, best love & prayers.
Bill is always with you and we will always remember him with love.

    1. I remember decades ago when Julie had divorced Doug so that he wouldn’t have to be with a woman whose face had been disfigured. Then, they reunited just like all of your fans wanted to happen! And I remember “Doug” singing “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World.” I’m hearing it in my mind just as clearly as I heard it all those years ago. My deepest condolences Susan! 😢

  3. Susan, not sure you remember me, wr meet a lot on cruises , DOOL parties, photo shoots and a lot more, I love both of you. So sorry for your loss of Bill. Love you.❤️💔❤️

  4. I am deeply saddened by his loss though it would never compare to how you feel of course. Remember all the good times you shared and while it wont bring him back I am sure you have many happy happy memories of your life together.

  5. I am so happy that Bill was able to film the last Days Christmas show with hanging of the family ornaments. I watched DOOL with my grandmother when it first started and watched you grow up and marry “Doug.” The Horton family will always be special to me! I will miss seeing Doug occasionally on the show! ❤️

    1. Bill was very emotional on the Christmas show. Maybe he felt like it was going to be his last. Will always miss him like I do the Horton’s.

My entire family has watched Days since the very first episode. My Dad was a pediatrician and he took his lunch hour in his office watching on a small TV. You and Bill were the greatest love story on screen and in real life. We send much love and our deepest sympathy.

  8. My heart goes out to Susan and all of Bill’s family and friends. I always loved Doug & Julie on Days of Our Lives. The best part of my most recent Christmas was watching the episode of Days that aired on Peacock on Friday, December 22. I loved the scenes between Doug & Julie and the great flashbacks and watched it twice. I’ve kept Bill & Susan in my prayers these past few years and will continue to pray for Susan.

So sorry for your loss Susan, I fell like I knew each of you from watching the show. Love shined through. I remember Bill Hayes from a show way back – I think it was called Name That Tune and Bill sang songs on it for the people to name – When I saw you both together on the show I was so happy to continue with your lives. Happy to see you remain on the show – you bring a good part to some of the not so good parts of the show. The producers were sure smart to have kept both your characters in place – you grounded the show real or otherwise. Thank you for showing what true love is.

  18. Dear Susan so sorry for ur loss! I have been watching from the beginning and you and Bill always made me smile! I will miss Bill on DAYS! God Bless you and carry u through till u see ur sweet Bill again

  19. So sorry for your loss. I remember the first time he was on the show way back when. I’ve been watching since day one. Always loved the two of you together. You were the epitome of the perfect couple. 🙁

  20. “Doug and Julie” were a loved and cherished couple and although I haven’t watched DOOL for years i will never forget the loved shown between Doug and Julie and the whole world knew it was also the real love shown between Bill and Susan. xxxx
