This week on Soapy, the podcast hosted by fan favorites Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, the duo welcomed a true Days of Our Lives legend, Suzanne Rogers, better known to the world as Maggie Horton.

Suzanne opened up about her early days, including what it was like starting out as a 17-year-old Rockette. She also shared stories from her time on Broadway, including working alongside the iconic Katharine Hepburn, which honestly sounds like a masterclass in itself.

In one of the most heartfelt parts of the conversation, the Emmy-winning star offered a detailed, deeply personal look at how her Days family has stood by her through multiple health battles, including her recent cancer treatments.

Suzanne Rogers Talks Myasthenia Gravis Diagnosis

Suzanne was an open book as she recounted stories of the past. She even spoke candidly about being diagnosed with the rare muscle disorder Myasthenia Gravis in the 1980s.

Of course, being diagnosed with the illness came with its own set of challenges. Rogers shared that she took some time off the show, but eventually the Days team called her back, and she decided to return.

She admitted, “The first day I saw myself on camera, I cried and turned off the camera,” explaining that “it looked like I was looking at somebody that I didn’t know. Because you really don’t see yourself in a mirror, but on a camera…

Even with that emotional moment, Rogers said, “I was glad that they asked me to come back.

She went on to explain that the condition, which caused facial weakness, was written into the Days of Our Lives storyline because she wanted it to have a hopeful ending and send a positive message to anyone watching who might be facing their own health battle.

Another Health Battle

Rogers also opened up about being diagnosed with colorectal cancer in June. She completed chemo and radiation on July 31 and became emotional as she spoke about the experience.

She explained, “If it had been injected in me, the chemo, my hair would have gone. And because I think I was so worried about it, you know, my hair, because that’s kind of the statement, ‘the redhead’ on the show… It’s thin some. But I instantly told the hair department to buy a wig. So we got a wig and it’s there in case that’s what happened.

She said she leaned heavily on her faith during treatment, sharing, “I went to church on Sunday and there were lots of prayers and hope from people that I loved and that I trusted.

Suzanne Rogers is hopeful that the cancer will stay in remission for a long time.
