A new daytime soap opera called The Gates is set to launch in the future, marking a historic moment for broadcast television.

“The Gates,” the series is a result of CBS’s partnership with the NAACP to bring to life a compelling story about a wealthy Black family residing in an upscale, gated community. The Gates: A New Soap Opera

The series will be led by experienced soap writer Michele Val Jean. She is known for her work on General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Santa Barbara. Val Jean also contributed as a script writer for the pioneering Black family-focused soap opera Generations, which aired on NBC from 1989-1991.

Sheila Ducksworth, the EP of “The Gates” and president of CBS Studios’ NAACP venture, expressed confidence in the series. She highlighted its multi-dimensional characters, compelling storylines, and the significant representation it brings to broadcast television.
