Buckle up, because we’ve put together a list of the most shocking soap opera exits of this wild year, which is quickly approaching a close. Dive into our fabulous roster of characters from Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless, and let us know which exit left your jaw on the floor!
Honorary Mentions:
- 5. Remington Hoffman – Li Shin, Days of our Lives

Of course, it was a jaw-dropper when the show decided to off Hoffman’s character, Li Shin—like they really wanted to keep us on our toes! And then there was that twist we never saw coming: a cardboard cutout of Li Shin making a cameo, courtesy of Julie Dove’s Connie.
- 4. Jacqueline Grace Lopez – Blaze, General Hospital

We can all agree that Blaze’s time on the show was short-lived! We were all ready for an amazing character arc, so you can imagine our surprise when the actress took to social media with an exit announcement.
- 3. Gregory Harrison – Gregory Chase, GH

From 2020 to 2024, Harrison took on the role of Gregory Chase on General Hospital, but let’s be real, we were hardly surprised when he exited considering the character’s ALS diagnosis.
- 2. Jamie Martin Mann – Tate Black, DAYS

Jamie Martin Mann left Days of our Lives in April 2024 to continue his studies at the University of Michigan. The role has since been played by Leo Howard.
- 1. Nicholas Alexander Chavez – Spencer Cassadine, GH

Chavez was quite the get as Spencer Cassadine; this is proven by him snagging the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series only just a year after joining the show. But let’s be honest; we’re not exactly shocked by this exit—considering the actor’s talent!
Top 10 Most Shocking Soap Opera Exits of 2024:
- 10. Vail Bloom – Heather Stevens, The Young and the Restless

Nearly 13 years after her initial run, Bloom sauntered back to Y&R, ready for what everyone thought would be a long-term saga — especially with her cozy reunion with Daniel! But surprise, surprise! Just when we thought the plot was thickening, her character was killed off in September.
- 9. Blake Berris – Everett Lynch/Bobby Stein, DAYS

Long after his initial stint as Nick Fallon, Blake Berris returned to the show in 2023 with a shiny, new role, only to take an even faster exit in 2024!
- 8. Adam J. Harrington – Jagger Cates, GH

Imagine our delight when Adam J. Harrington waltzed onto our TV screens with his soap opera debut as Jagger Cates in February 2024, a role previously played by Antonio Sbato Jr. It was all sunshine until fans, who were busy losing their minds over his acting skills, had to face the shocking twist of the year: the character getting killed off months later!
- 7. Michael Easton – Hamilton Finn, GH

First he was John McBain, then he was Caleb Morley, then Silas Clay, and he finally settled down as Dr. Hamilton Finn, a role that ran from March 21, 2016, to June 27, 2024, and snagged him a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2018. It was surprising when the actor got onto Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes clip, announcing his exit from the show.
- 6. Matthew Atkinson – Thomas Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful

Where’s Thomas? Why is he not involved in all the drama? A couple questions fans may be asking. After his run as Austin Travers on The Young and the Restless, Atkinson waltzed over to B&B, bursting onto our screens as Thomas in 2019. But, plot twist! After a few years, his character’s been shipped off to Paris, taking his son Douglas and fiancée Paris along for the ride. While in real life, Atkinson has recently become a boy dad—congrats!
- 5. Brandon Barash – Stefan DiMera, DAYS

In again, out again! Although it had been rumored for a while, Brandon Barash’s exit came as a shock when it was confirmed. He joined the show as Stefan DiMera (who had his “oops, I’m dead” moment), then came back as his twin brother Jake, who also faced an untimely demise. Now, in a plot twist that nobody saw coming (or maybe we should’ve), Barash has bid farewell, making his final appearance on October 28.
- 4. Trevor St. John – Tucker McCall, The Young and the Restless

St. John, who stepped into the role of Tucker McCall in 2022, shocked the soap opera world when he announced he was leaving the show. It was especially surprising since there wasn’t even a proper farewell arc—just poof! Gone! The actor’s soap saga also includes his time as Todd Manning/Victor Lord Jr. on One Life to Live.
- 3. Chad Duell – Michael Corinthos, GH

While Duell’s onscreen exit as Michael is slated for sometime in the new year, fans were left doing double-takes when the actor hopped onto Instagram to reveal he’s decided to leave the show he has called home for almost 15 years! His impressive tenure was sprinkled with nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 2011, 2012, and 2014. Duell snagged the coveted Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2015.
- 2. Arianne Zucker/Greg Vaughan – Nicole/Eric, DAYS

After more than 20 years on the show, Arianne Zucker exited as Nicole in July, leaving alongside her on-screen leading man, Greg Vaughan’s Eric Brady. No doubt, her departure sent shockwaves through the soap community! Over the years, she racked up 5 Daytime Emmy Award nominations—2 for supporting and a dazzling 3 for Outstanding Lead Actress. Meanwhile, Vaughan (who snagged the Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2018) recently popped back in for a few episodes.
- 1. Kelly Monaco – Sam McCall, GH

Kelly Monaco was reportedly “blindsided” by the show’s decision to axe her character, and fans were just as shocked! After 21 years with the show, Monaco’s untimely exit was first revealed by the Soap Opera Network in August, with her character being killed off later on. She made her final appearance on November 1. During her journey, Monaco snagged a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series back in 2006.
