This week’s ‘Who Was I On Soaps?’ star is Oscar winner Kathy Bates!

Bates is best know for her portrayal of psychotic nurse, Annie Wilkes, in the 1990 movie Misery. She won the Best Actress Oscar for that role which launched her to superstardom!

Before all of the glory, Kathy did her time on daytime, with bit parts on The Doctors in 1978 and One Life To Live and All My Children in 1984.

She only appeared in one episode of All My Children but she is remembered for the role. She played Belle Bodelle who was an inmate doing time with Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci.

When asked about her experience on All My Children, Bates said, “I played a brutal character who was in prison with Erica. I was so impressed with Susan and how much friggin’ dialogue she could learn everyday.”

She heaped more praise on Lucci in an interview on The Talk, “She’s a samurai. She’s a wonderful actress. She had it all going on. I loved working with her. She is an awesome lady.”

Kathy Bates went on to have an amazing Hollywood career that continues to this day and it is nice to see that she still recognizes the talent and hard work that go into daytime TV!
