After more than a decade away from the soap opera genre, Erika Slezak is stepping back into the soap spotlight. This time, she’s heading to General Hospital. According to Executive Producer Frank Valentini, we won’t see her on screen until sometime in the fall, so fans will have to hang tight just a little longer.
What we don’t know yet is who she’ll be playing. And you know what that means — the speculation machine is already in overdrive.
Now, it wouldn’t be totally out of the question for her to reprise her legendary One Life to Live role as Viki Lord. After all, GH has welcomed OLTL characters before. Remember Starr Manning? Todd Manning? Or John McBain? But before you start imagining Viki strolling through Port Charles, there’s a new rumor report from Daytime Confidential that might burst that particular bubble.
Erika Slezak’s Role on General Hospital
The site says, “While ABC remains tight-lipped regarding who the six-time Emmy-winning actress will be playing on GH, sources tell yours truly Slezak is set to play the sister of the missing-in-action Q matriarch.”
Very interesting, especially when you consider the latest episode of General Hospital on July 21, where Martin found a letter addressed to Monica. Could that letter actually be from Monica’s long-lost sister? It wouldn’t be a stretch, since the show is planning to honor the legacy of Leslie Charleson, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Erika Slezak, of course, is best known for her role as Victoria “Viki” Lord on One Life to Live, a character she portrayed from 1971 through the show’s finale in 2012, and again in the online reboot in 2013. She’s one of the longest-serving serial actors in American television history, and her performance earned her six Daytime Emmy Awards. Queen status.
So, what do you think? Would you like to see Erika Slezak as Monica’s sister? Or are you secretly hoping for a surprise return of Viki Lord? (Photo: Hallmark.)
