No, No Way! Josh Taylor (Roman, Days of Our Lives) and Women’s World answered some of his and Days’ fans’ most burning questions during the veteran soap opera star’s recent exclusive interview. Check out a few highlights below.
Taylor, known for portraying popular characters throughout his career, such as Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives, Jack McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210, and Michael Hogan on The Hogan Family, has enjoyed a highly successful acting career for over fifty years.
Josh Taylor’s Career
In 1997, after his run in primetime, Taylor returned to daytime when he was recast as Roman Brady. His first stint was on Days as well when he portrayed Chris Kositchek from 1977-87. Taylor was stepping into the role of Roman, following fan favorites Wayne Northrop and Drake Hogestyn, who had previously held the role. Was Taylor nervous?
“Call it confident and cocky or whatever, but I felt calm. The big question at the time was how I felt about taking over for Drake Hogestyn and Wayne Northrop, rest in peace, who’d played Roman for all that time. Wayne had done a hell of a job making this character come alive, but I knew I could put my mark on it.”
Taylor’s thought at that time was,“my biggest competition is going to be Chris Kositchek!” Ha! Yes, the first “blue jeans character” in daytime will forever hold its place in daytime history.
The Ships
Soap opera fans love their ships and ship wars, for better or for worse, have become a social media staple. So, the question must be asked. Who is the love of Roman Brady’s life, Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) or Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall)?
“You know, the show set it up that Marlena was the love of Roman’s life, but I wasn’t involved in the flip around. I didn’t play all that, so I’m not quite sure…. But I’m just glad that Marlena and Roman have developed an incredible friendship over these years—one that’s actually how I am with my ex-wife in real life, so I feel that. But then… Kate was always there. We’ve come back and forth at different times, for good or bad! So I would say they’re tied for first. Kate definitely belongs up there, as well.” Well played, Mr. Taylor!
No Retirement Plans
With the unfortunate passing of some (too many) of Days beloved actors over the last several years including Joseph Mascolo (Stefano DiMera), Peggy McCay (Caroline Brady), Frank Parker (Shawn Brady), John Aniston (Victor Kiriakis), Bill Hayes (Doug Williams), Wayne Northrop (Roman Brady) and Drake Hogestyn (Roman Brady) us Days fans are holding tightly to our Days’ actors more than ever. It’s been twenty-eight years since Taylor took over the role of Roman Brady. Is retirement in his immediate plans?
“You know, friends from high school keep asking me, ‘Are you going to retire, or what?’” concludes Days of Our Lives’ Taylor. “Man, I’m having too much fun, so no, no way!” Long live Roman Brady!
