Actor and writer, Adam Huss (Nikolas Cassadine, General Hospital), has several projects in the works. He is super talented and super busy. Keep your ears close to the ground because soon (when he is able to share) you will be hearing all about the exciting irons he has in his fire. Recently, Angela Ryan-Duncan (Parade) interviewed Huss, where he spoke about his new comic, Truth Man, which is derived from his original screenplay, Original Tru.
Adam Huss: Original Tru
The original screenplay (and planned adaptation into a feature film) is inspired by one of Huss’s favorite films, Pretty In Pink. The 1986 teen romantic comedy-drama by John Hughes starring Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer, Andrew McCarthy, Annie Potts, and James Spader, follows “outcast” Andie (Ringwald), from the wrong side of the tracks, who falls for the popular Blane (McCarthy), and her quest to win Blane’s heart.
“Pretty in Pink is the catalyst for the premise of Original Tru. In the movie, Andie had her own style, and there was something special about her, and everyone knew it, right? But they treated her like a loser because of where she was from.” Look at Huss now!
More About Original Tru
Original Tru is a high school coming-of-age story about a gay teenager comic book designer, “Truth Man.” His online comic book exposes wrongdoings by some of his popular classmates. The screenplay follows the scandal and its aftermath, which includes how, even though no one knows Truth Man is the person writing the comic and Truth Man himself is unpopular, during the course of the story, he himself becomes popular.
“He feels on top of the world. He’s going to parties. He gets the guy of his dreams, and then all of a sudden he becomes vicious, he hurts his friends that were once his allies, and he becomes the bully himself.”
Wow! The Story sounds intriguing. Unfortunately, there have been challenges getting funding for the project, and it is pending at the time of this writing. There is good news. Bradley Bredeweg, creator and producer, who is also attached to produce and direct Original Tru was asked to create the comic from the movie.
Adam Huss Talks Truth Man
Truth Man is an online action-packed comic series based on the comic from the film, Original Tru. Huss and Nicole Maines are co-writing the series, with artwork by Christopher Ables, cover art by Zachary Swackary, and it is being produced by Molecule Productions, a production company founded by Huss and his partner, Adam Bucci.
The setting is an apocalyptic world where there are some people who allowed the ugliness inside of them to fester so deeply that they themselves became monsters, and the world fell into chaos. And there are other people, on the run, who live on the fringes of society and are considered outcasts.
The Story of Truth Man
“In this place rises a hero named ‘Truth Man,’ who knows he has the ability to fight back and inspire people to fight back with him. It is an LGBTQ comic, and it is a pro LGBTQ comic. And it is pro anyone on the outside or the outskirts of society. This comic is talking about what is going on in the world right now, and we are not shying away from it. We are not “woke,” we are awake. And we are not afraid to say, guess what? We warned you that you’d become a monster, and now you are.
Truth Man is there to save them and to save those who haven’t turned yet but feel hopeless. He wants to give them hope and wants them to see the hope he sees in them and in himself. He wants to help people see their true potential, their authentic self, and see that they have the ability, strength, and power to fight back. They don’t have to be apathetic and just accept their fate.
We are intentionally sending the message that it is ‘go time’ because of how scary the world is right now.”
Truth Man will debut as a nine-page mini comic with panels dropping weekly on Patreon. And according to Patreon’s website, an 8-12 issue continuous arc is currently being written by Huss and Maines.
Truth Man is exclusively available on Patreon.
