The legendary Susan Lucci, best known for her decades-long run as Erica Kane on All My Children, is the latest guest on Soapy. The podcast is hosted by soap favorites Greg Rikaart and Rebecca Budig, and the YouTube series is now in its second season. This episode marks the second installment of 2026.

During the episode, Lucci spoke about her new memoir, the loss of her late husband, the possibility of an All My Children reboot, and an upcoming project with Jonah Hill.

A New Memoir and Healing Through Writing

Susan discussed her new memoir, La Lucci, a follow-up to her first book. The memoir focuses on resilience, reinvention, and loss following the death of her husband of 52 years, Helmut Huber.

She described the writing process as deeply cathartic. She also explains that it helped her work through her grief and emotions during a painful chapter of her life.

Reflecting on Erica Kane and All My Children

Lucci reflected on her remarkable 41-year run as Erica Kane and credited creator Agnes Nixon for trusting her with such an iconic role.

Agnes created this character, and lucky me, she put her in my hands,” Lucci shared. “I was in the best hands with Agnes. I would read scripts and think, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to get to say that, get to do that scene.’ It was just instantly exciting.”

She also spoke about the show’s cancellation and life after All My Children. When the conversation turned to a possible reboot, Lucci made it clear the idea is not dead. At least, not yet.

It’s been bubbling for several years,” she said. “And then just when I think that it probably isn’t bubbling anymore, it’s bubbling. It’s bubbling as we speak.”

A New Film With Jonah Hill and Keanu Reeves

Lucci also revealed she recently worked on a new movie written and directed by Jonah Hill. The film, titled Outcome, stars Keanu Reeves and is set to stream on Apple TV Plus.

Jonah wrote it, directed it, and he’s in it,” Lucci said. “And he’s spectacular.

She explained how she received the script as a direct offer and immediately recognized the emotional weight of the role.

I was told I was receiving this script from Jonah Hill for his movie,” she recalled. “My name was watermarked on it. Susan Lucci was watermarked. It was an offer.”

While the role was not large, she said it was powerful and challenging.

It’s not a big part, but it’s a pretty sizable scene and very powerful,” Lucci explained. “I remember thinking this is really something, but it was going to require me to go to a place I thought I was still too raw to go to.”

At first, she hesitated and worried about how emotionally taxing the role might be.

I thought it was probably good for my career, but as a human being, maybe not,” she said.

A Mind Change

After speaking with her publicist, Lucci received a call directly from Jonah Hill.

Jonah Hill called me. He really did have me in mind for this part,” she shared. “He was lovely and wonderful to talk to, and I could tell he was really invested.”

By the end of that conversation, Lucci said she felt an overwhelming emotional release.

I had this enormous cathartic gratitude,” she said.

She ultimately accepted the role, and the rest is history.
