Arleen Sorkin, an American actress, screenwriter, presenter, and comedian, passed away on August 24, 2023, at the age of 67. The news of Sorkin’s death was revealed by fellow voice actor, Neil Kaplan on Twitter. She was best known for playing Calliope Jones on the NBC daytime serial Days of Our Lives and voicing the DC Comics villain Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series and subsequent animated series and video games created by her college friend Paul Dini.
Sorkin started her career as part of the comedy group The High-Heeled Women in the late 1970s and early 1980s. She played several prominent roles, including Calliope Jones on Days of Our Lives from 1984–1990, 1992, 2006, and 2010, Geneva on Duet, and was the original female co-host on America’s Funniest People. Sorkin also wrote for Tiny Toon Adventures and co-wrote the screenplay for Picture Perfect. She provided the inspiration and voice for the animated character Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series and other DC projects. From 1995 until her death, Sorkin was married to television writer-producer Christopher Lloyd, with whom she had two sons, Eli and Owen.
