Amanda Seyfried (Lucy Montgomery, As The World Turns/Joni
Stafford, All My Children) will star in Hulu’s limited series The Dropout as
Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes was the
youngest self-made female billionaire after she founded a health technology
company named Theranos that claimed it could perform rapid and thorough blood tests with
small amounts of blood. However, it
wound up not working. The Dropout will
follow the rise and fall of Holmes and her company, Theranos. Naveen Andrews co-stars in the series as
Sunny Balwani, the president and COO of Theranos. The Dropout also includes other guest stars
such as: William H. Macy, Dylan Minnette, Laura Metcalfe, Stephen Fry, and Sam
Waterston. The premiere of The Dropout
will air on Hulu on March 3rd.
Kate McKinnon was originally going to play Holmes. However, McKinnon left the project in
February 2021. Seyfried was recast in
March. Seyfried got her start in acting
on daytime; she played Lucinda “Lucy” Montgomery on As The World Turns from
1999-2001 and then played Joni Stafford on All My Children in 2003. Seyfried’s most notable roles have been in
feature films such as: Karen Smith in “Mean Girls”, Sophie Sheridan in “Mamma
Mia!”, Savannah Lynn Curtis in “Dear John”, Sophie Hall in “Letters to Juliet”,
and Cosette in “Les Misérables”.
