In the latest episode of State of Mind, host Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) sat down with one of General Hospital’s newest faces, Bluesy Burke, who plays Charlotte Cassadine. And honestly, her story is not what you’d expect.
From the start, Bluesy opened up about her journey into acting and how booking General Hospital almost didn’t feel real. At one point, she even thought the opportunity had completely passed her by.
From “I Didn’t Think Anything of It” to Booking GH
Bluesy shared that she had been auditioning on and off for years. But when she moved from Los Angeles to New York in 2021, right in the middle of school and COVID restrictions, she stepped away from it for a while.
Then things changed.
“But then I got this [a new film], and then I realized like I actually want to do this. Like, this is really cool,” she said, explaining how the passion came back.
After getting an agent and jumping back into auditions, she landed one for General Hospital. At first, she didn’t think much of it.
“I didn’t think anything of it because I didn’t hear for like a month… I was like, ‘Oh, that’s probably over. It’s okay.’”
But it wasn’t over.
She got called back and walked into what she described as an “intimidating” room filled with producers. Even then, she still wasn’t sure anything would come from it.
Then came the moment that changed everything.
“Perfect Timing” Changed Everything
While on a trip with friends, Bluesy missed an important call and was bracing for trouble with her parents. Then, out of nowhere, her agent called.
“You booked it. They want you to play Charlotte on General Hospital.”
Her reaction says it all:
“And so instead of like my dad, like calling me and scolding me, he was like, ‘I’m so proud of you, Bluesy. This is really great.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my god… perfect timing.’ Like, Saved by the Bell fully.”
That one call flipped the entire day around and officially launched her into the world of daytime TV.
A Hollywood Connection You Didn’t See Coming
Bluesy also shared a surprising detail about her life. Olivia Wilde is actually her godmother.
She grew up in Los Angeles before moving to New York, and acting has always been around her. Her father is Billy Burke, best known for his role in the Twilight films. She even admitted it felt “weird” watching his movies growing up because her friends were such big fans.
Meanwhile, her mother is a former actress and current fashion designer from London who recently launched a leather and silk goods brand
She also had a few early blink-and-you-miss-it appearances, including a small moment in the film Booksmart, which was directed by Wilde.
Adjusting to Soap Life
Booking the role was just the beginning. Once she got to set, Bluesy quickly realized how intense soap opera work can be.
On her very first day, she had to memorize 54 pages of dialogue. It was a major adjustment, but one she’s clearly embraced.
Opening Up About Mental Health
A big part of the conversation also focused on mental health. Bluesy described herself as someone who deals with anxiety and a constant fear of the unknown.
She talked about ways she manages it, including simple techniques like square breathing and staying active. Even something like Pilates, which she says is tough in the moment, helps her feel better afterward.
By the end of the conversation, we learned so much about her. Now’s your turn. Check out the full interview with Bluesy Burke below!
