Lisa Yamada took home the gold at the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, October 17, for her role as Luna Nozawa on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Yamada made history as the first winner of the newly introduced category, Best Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series. This category recognizes performers who have joined a daytime drama within the past two years, and Yamada fits right in, having debuted in the role in 2023.

Also nominated in this category were Ashley Puzemis (Holly, Days of Our Lives), AnnaLynne McCord (Cat Greene), Olivia d’Abo (The Bay), and Yamada’s B&B colleague and real-life bestie, Christian Weissmann (Remy).

It was a night of firsts for Yamada — her first Daytime Emmy nomination, her first win, the first person to ever win in this new category, and the first performer of Asian descent to win a Daytime Emmy for acting in a network soap opera.

Basking in the glow of her victory from the night before, Yamada shared a post on Instagram. She wrote, “Still reeling from last night. There aren’t enough words to express my gratitude to everyone who’s helped me get here. My heart is so full.”

Thank you for creating a space where I can be vulnerable and pour my heart into every scene. To my fellow nominees — I am so in love with all of you beautiful people and such a big fan of each of you. Having my name listed alongside yours was truly an honor.”

Yamada also reflected on her family’s sacrifices, sharing, “I come from two immigrant parents who helped me navigate an industry that was so foreign to them, all while trying to understand a language not their own. even when we didn’t have much, they never hesitated to pay for every acting class, every headshot, and drive me to every audition.”

Overjoyed by the recognition, she added, “So to be the first performer of Asian descent to win a Daytime Emmy for acting in a network soap opera… I’m so deeply humbled. to the late-night self tapes, the tears over missed roles — this career is really fxxxing hard. but I’d tell little Lisa, the one who cried herself to sleep dreaming of a moment like this: we did it, girl.”
