State of Mind recently dropped Part 2 of Chad Duell’s (Michael, General Hospital) sit-down with Maurice Benard (Sonny, General Hospital). In this segment, Duell spoke about his father’s recent passing, parenting, his exit from GH, and more.
It is extremely difficult for Duell to talk about the death of his father. Still, he opened up about how he is coping, best he can, while grappling with his loss.
Duell told Benard that this is his first experience with the passing of a loved one. He expressed that it doesn’t feel real and that he hasn’t been able to process it yet. However, he finds comfort knowing his father is in blissful peace and that his soul is happy.
In lighter moments, Duell talked about finding joy watching his son grow and how he gets a kick out of making his son laugh. The simple joys of parenthood.
Duell also discussed his decision to leave GH to take time to deal with the changes in his life and just to take some time to catch his breath. In addition, he said his exit was well done and is grateful that executive producer, Frank Valentini, left the door open for a possible return.
And how about that exit?! After more than 14 years of playing Michael Corinthos, Chad Duell and Michael for sure went out in “blaze” of glory!

Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with Duell and his family during this difficult time.
