It’s been 10 years, 10 wonderful years. Galen Gering who plays Rafe Hernandez on Days of Our Lives is celebrating a grand milestone today. On October 31, 2008, after a full run on Passions as Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald, Gering made his ‘Days’ debut.
Rafe was created by then Head Writer, Dena Higley. He was introduced as the FBI agent assigned to protect the troublesome Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) during her stay in witness protection. Sami and Rafe’s contentious dynamic later develops into a romantic affair. The two later fell in love and eventually got married. Their relationship, however, was plagued by Sami’s romance with Salem’s resident bad boy, EJ DiMera (James Scott). Rafe’s disdain for the DiMera family grows when he discovers that EJ is behind the kidnapping and presumed death of Sami’s daughter Sydney and EJ’s father Stefano (Joseph Mascolo) replaces Rafe with a doppelganger. Rafe’s extended family was later introduced.
Romantically, the character has been paired with women such as; Hope (Kristian Alfonso), Nicole (Arianne Zucker), Jordan (Chrishell Hartley), Carrie (Christie Clark) and more. He has worked as a Commissioner, Police Detective, Nightclub Manager, FBI Agent and ISA Agent.
