Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on July 27, 2023: Gwen suddenly returns to find Leo and Dimitri together. Abe wakes up. Lani is forced to say goodbye. Marlena visits Whitley.
Days of Our Lives Episode Recap July 27, 2023: Lani Says Goodbye
Leo pulls away from Dimitri’s kiss out of guilt but is very tempted when Dimitri removes his shirt and pulls his pants down. They panic when Gwen walks in and Leo tries to cover by saying Dimitri was going to try on one of his suits since he didn’t have one nice enough for the wedding. Gwen can tell it’s a lie but thinks Leo set up that ruse so that he could see Dimitri undressed. Leo pretends to confess and apologizes to Dimitri, who accepts his apology and gets dressed. He kisses Gwen and leaves under the pretense of going to get a new suit. Gwen and Leo celebrate her upcoming wedding with cake and champagne. Leo is down and Gwen assures him that he will meet someone who makes him as happy as Dimitri makes her. At the DiMera mansion, Dimitri gives himself a pep talk about marrying Gwen and tells himself that he can keep seeing Leo on the side.
Eli and Lani are in her hospital room when the US Marshall comes in and tells her that he is there to take her back to prison. Eli tries to get her more time with Abe but Gerard tells him that there is nothing he can do. In Abe’s room, Paulina talks to him and realizes that he has no idea who she is or what happened to him. She fills him in the best she can but is upset when he asks for his wife. She tells him that she is his wife and the other woman was just pretending. She shows him their wedding picture and he tells her that he had a memory of her and their wedding but had thought it was wrong.
Theo talks to Kayla in the lobby about what happened with his Dad and wonders if it is his fault because of what he did with Ciara. Kayla assures him that he is a good person and that Abe’s situation has nothing to do with that. He goes in to talk to Abe and is understanding when his father doesn’t recognize him. Eli talks to Kayla for a few minutes while Lani goes into Abe’s room. He remembers her from Whitley’s but has no memory of her as his daughter.
When Eli comes in and tells Lani they have to go, Lani covers with Abe by telling him that they live in Maryland but she will visit as soon as she can. Paulina shows Abe a picture of the twins and they all share touching goodbyes with Lani before she leaves with Gerard and Eli. After everybody is gone, Kayla goes into Abe’s room and talks to him about his friendship with her and Steve.
At the Salem PD, Whitley is in the interrogation room when Marlena comes in. Whitley thinks she is a character from Body & Soul but Marlena corrects her and talks to her gently about what happened with Abe and with her husband. Whitley is confused but Marlena is able to get through to her. Paulina comes in and verbally attacks Whitley for what she did before slapping her across the face. Marlena hurries Paulina out of the room as Whitley cries.
