Robert Scott Wilson is arguably the hottest actor in daytime right now, in more ways than one. Sorry (well not really) for stating the obvious but Rob is sexy personified. His face, hair, smoldering eyes and those abs; perfection. Who knew twirling neckties could look so good? Watching him just stand and sing his ABC’s would be captivating enough, but Mr. Wilson can act as well.
We could debate the issue of him being the hottest actor in daytime although I’d hedge my bets with Rob. But what is absolutely not up for debate is that Rob’s half of the hottest duo in daytime, #Cin. Cin has resurrected the once dead daytime “supercouple”. Thanks to Rob and Victoria Konefal the supercouple lives on. Thank you soap gawds! I had to show some #cin love back to Rob. No, wait, first I have to give a shout out to Victoria and the casting and hair and make-up departments at Days for blessing seasoned viewers like myself, with some Kristian Alfonso throwback flawless 80’s hair. Okay, now back to Rob.
Rob made his daytime debut when he made history becoming the first male model on The Price is Right in 2012. He followed that up with his soap debut in 2013 when he was cast as Peter Cortlandt on All My Children (reboot on-line version).
Peter Cortlandt is the son of legacy characters; Palmer (James Mitchell) and Opal Cortlandt (Jill Larson). Peter was born on screen in Pine Valley in December 1992. The pregnancy was a surprise to Opal who thought she was in menopause. And, an even bigger surprise to Palmer who was thought to be sterile and doubted that the child was his. Palmer’s doubts proved to be unwarranted when a DNA test later confirmed, “Petey” (affectionally called by his momma) was, in fact, Palmer’s son.
Petey spent a privileged childhood giving his parents a run for their money and being notorious for running away his nannies. He was eventually sent away to boarding school in 2003 where he spent the remaining of his childhood off-screen.
Peter returned to Pine Valley briefly in 2008. He fell for his father’s arch nemesis, Adam Chandler’s, daughter, Colby Chandler. Despite all his efforts, offering to help Colby and her friends cover up a potential hit and run and even dancing with the devil himself by scheming with Adam (Peter helped Adam poison Fusion’s perfume to tank Fusion so Adam could take over the company. In exchange Adam promised to give Peter his blessing with Colby); Colby didn’t return his affections. In late 2009 Peter left again. This time jetting off to Switzerland.
Four actors played Peter prior to Rob in 2013. Rob appeared in the first episode of the All My Children reboot. Opal wanted Peter to help save his deceased father’s company, Cortlandt Electronics, from financial ruin. Peter wasn’t as convinced and thought it might be time to let the company go as he had his own company going public. However, Peter eventually ended up partnering with the town pariah, David Hayward (Vincent Irizarry), to save his father’s company.
Peter was smitten with a new character, Celia Fitzgerald (Jordan Lane Pryce). Celia was orphaned, sheltered with a mysterious faceless guardian who with “Evelyn” (the faceless guardian’s employee) wanted to keep Celia far away from Peter. They weren’t the only ones.
When Peter ran into Colby, she couldn’t help but notice how much Peter had changed (yeah Rob can have that effect on you!) and she wanted to break her off a piece. Um, she did. If you want to know how, YouTube or Google, because they went there. Opal’s unique “senses” were put off by an unusual aura stemming from Celia. And, though she and Colby were a far cry from being besties, they also teamed up to keep Peter and Celia apart.
Unfortunately, we all know what happened shortly thereafter to our beloved soap. How I miss All My Children. We don’t know what ultimately happened with Cortlandt Electronics. Who was Celia’s mysterious faceless guardian? So many unanswered questions. We may never know for sure. But thank God we know exactly what happened to Rob. He’s shaking it up and showing out in Salem as Ben Weston.
Josh Griffin received a lot of criticism for going dark during the 50th Anniversary of Days of our Lives which included killing the beloved Will Horton. I totally understood where that criticism came from and I thought it was justified. But for me personally, I loved the necktie storyline.
The storyline gifted us with the best character and actor transformations in recent soap history. Vanilla, sweet, calm and sometimes “dull” Ben transformed into a thrilling, multi-layered, dark psychotic killer before our very eyes and it was glorious.
Who wasn’t haunted by that scene of Chabby chained to the bed in the cabin with flickering flames all around and Ben kidnapping and telling “Colin”, “Say goodbye to your ex-mama? Bye momma.” It was chilling. My finger should have gotten a cramp, play rewind play, play rewind play, etc.
When I heard Rob was returning to Days, I was elated. But I can’t lie I thought how can you top his portrayal of the psychotic Salem necktie killer? Well, some genius at Days did just that by coming up with the idea of playing the good girl/bad boy trope with Rob and Victoria. And the supercouple has been reborn. The soap gawds love us people. Everything in daytime is coming up Robert Scott Wilson and I believe we ain’t seen nothing yet.
