On November 1, 2024, after 21 years, Kelly Monaco appeared in her final General Hospital episode as Sam McCall. As seen on screen, the characters were featured in emotionally charged goodbye scenes to Sam, who suffered a heart attack and died, and it was just as hard behind the scenes for the actors who have come to know and love Monaco. Dominic Zamprogna, who has been playing Sam’s onscreen lover and fiancé (in the latter end), spoke with Soap Opera Digest in regards to the exit of his colleague.

He tells the outlet, “My monologues were her last scenes, so we finished those scenes, and I basically said good-bye to Kelly then and there.” He adds that in her final weeks of filming, “She was amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing.”

Zamprogna described the cast and crew as family and reflected on the strong bonds developed during long work hours. He also praised Monaco as a tough and admirable person and although they are no longer working together, he values their friendship.

He revealed that he learned Monaco “is softer than her tough Philly exterior.” Zamprogna also shared some advice that he offered her. Although they may not be working together at the moment, he notes, “I still check in on her every week.” He even looks forward to the possibility of working with her again in the future. “It’s a soap. Who the heck knows what’s gonna happen?” Make sure to visit Soap Opera Digest for the full interview.
