Here’s some exciting news to kick off your Thursday morning: Elizabeth Hendrickson is officially stepping into the director’s chair at The Young and the Restless.
She made the announcement on Instagram with a carousel of behind-the-scenes pics and the big reveal: “After 24 years in front of the camera, I’m thrilled to be able to tell you all that I’ve stepped behind it.”
Hendrickson has been lighting up daytime TV since 2001, first as Mary Frances “Frankie” Stone on All My Children, and since 2008, as Chloe Mitchell on The Young and the Restless. Fans would even remember her for her brief run as Margaux Dawson on General Hospital. Now, she’s adding director to her résumé, and her very first episode airs on August 5.
Elizabeth Hendrickson Steps Behind the Camera
Sharing more in her post, she opened up about the journey behind the scenes: “I’ve spent the past 18 months up in the booth, shadowing, observing & absorbing — not knowing if it would ever turn into something more. There were hurdles but I kept showing up, paying attention, and fell in love with the process.“
And talk about a high-stakes first day — her debut as director features soap legends Eric Braeden (Victor) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki). “The privilege (and pressure 🙂 of working with two giants of our genre, Eric Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott, on my first day was not lost on me.”
She also gave a heartfelt shoutout to the people who supported her behind the scenes: “I have been supported every step of the way by my Y&R family…the amazing cast and crew.“
Hendrickson went on to thank key folks at Y&R, Sony and CBS, including Executive Producer and Head Writer Josh Griffith, and added: “It took support and determination from so many.. and I got it. And to Owen Renfroe — the best teacher and mentor I could’ve asked for — thank you for your time, wisdom and belief in me.”
Big congrats to Elizabeth Hendrickson on this exciting new chapter. We can’t wait to see what she brings to the screen from the other side of the camera! (Photo: Sonja Flemming/CBS.)
