Ingo Rademacher, who played Jasper ‘Jax’ Jacks on General Hospital, has lost the lawsuit he brought against the ABC network over the Covid vaccine mandate that led to his dismissal. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen Goorvitch granted a summary judgment dismissing the case today according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.
In late summer of 2021, Disney announced a company-wide Covid vaccine mandate for all of its productions. General Hospital is under the Disney umbrella due to its ownership of the ABC network which owns General Hospital. The order was to go into effect on November 1st and anyone unvaccinated without a company-granted exemption would no longer be allowed on set. Rademacher refused the vaccine and was denied his waiver request so his character was written off the show later that month.
In December 2021, Ingo sued the network for denying his religious exemption request. He claimed medical and religious discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and a variety of other claims. The network argued that Disney had vetted every exemption request thoroughly and granted those found to be valid. They claimed that his were not valid and were denied on the basis of that finding.
In December 2022, the network requested a summary judgment dismissing the case. Rademacher had also filed a motion for summary judgment asking for a judgment in his favor. A hearing on both motions was held on April 5th of this year and today’s ruling is the outcome of that hearing.
