There’s a new primetime series on the horizon that will feature two of your former soap stars. Murray Bartlett’s been cast in a series regular role and Michael Park has been cast in recurring roles in a new screen project. They’re both set to join Netflix’s upcoming sequel of the 1993 Emmy-nominated miniseries called Armistead Murphin’s Tale of the City with a 10-part season 1 scheduled to debut in 2019.
Park, as many know played the role of Jack Snyder on As the World Turns from 1997 – 2010 for which he earned two Daytime Emmy awards. He is also an original cast member of Dear Evan Hansen, continuing in his role as Larry Murphy at the Music Box Theatre.
Bartlett, on the other hand, is known for playing the roles of; Julian Sinclair on All My Children from 2002 – 2003 and Cyrus Foley on Guiding Light from 2007 – 2009. Bartlet has since played the roles of; Dom Basaluzzo on Looking and Paul Edmonds on Iron Fist.
The series will see four-time Tony
nominee Laura Linney and Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis, reprising their
roles as Mary Ann Singleton and Anna Madrigal, respectively. Barbara
Garrick will also return to the role of DeDe Halcyon Day with Ellen Page will taking on the role of Mary Ann’s daughter.
Deadline reports: Based on the books by Armistead Maupin, this next chapter – Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City
– follows Mary Ann (Linney), who returns home to San Francisco and is
reunited with her daughter Shawna (Page) and ex-husband Brian, twenty
years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Fleeing the
midlife crisis that her picture perfect Connecticut life created, Mary
Ann returns home to her chosen family and will quickly be drawn back
into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Dukakis) and the residents of 28
Barbary Lane.
Murray Bartlett will play lovable Michael ‘Mouse’ Tolliver, longtime resident at Barbary Lane and Mary Ann’s best friend while Michael Park will play Mary Ann’s husband Robert. Please stay tuned for updates.
