Ryan Murphy, FX’s period drama, Pose, announced that the show will do a period jump in its season 2 finale. The season 2 finale set to air August 20 on FX will jump ahead to 1991.
Pose centers around the African-American and Latino ballroom culture of the late 1980’s. Pose recently earned six Primetime Emmy Award nominations for its first season.
Among the shows trailblazing achievements, Pose has the largest cast of transgender and LGBTQ actors in television history. This season the show further broke new ground with a gay sex scene between the characters Pray and Ricky and Billy Porter (who plays Pray) was nude. Billy said this about the groundbreaking sex scene. “I have spent my entire career never having been the object of anyone’s affection in anything until now,” he said. “I had my first romantic kiss in anything ever in my life last season in episode eight. So to be turning 50 on September 21 and having a very loving, connected sex scene is blowing my mind.” It was past time.
Pose has been renewed by FX for a third season. Murphy states that he plans to end the series in 1996, the year that AIDS medications became more accessible to patients.
