This Friday, February 23rd, 2018 ‘General Hospital’ will arrive at a major milestone. The ABC daytime drama will air its 14,000th episode. In the record of Soap History, ‘GH’ is the second soap to arrive at this major milestone and currently the only soap on the air to arrive there.

As many may remember, the show premiered as a 30 minute serial on April 1, 1963, on ABC. It was created by husband and wife soap writers, Frank and Doris Hursley. The series later expanded to a 45-minute serial on July 26, 1976, and later to a full hour on January 16, 1978.

With focus on the Quartermaines, the Corinthos, the Webbers and other major families, GH continues to be one of the most loved daytime soap operas to date. The series currently holds the record for the most Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series with 13 wins.

As the show gears up to air its 14,000th episode this Friday, fans are encouraged to tune in for the MAJOR drama that’s ahead. Congratulations to the cast and crew on this major milestone.
